• The best part about the game was the feeling from the second inning on that the Sox couldn't screw it up this time. They could give up a couple of runs and still recover. As the game went on, the glow got warmer. Allah be praised for six run leads! I gotta admit that the pitching of Pedro Martinez was a low point. Just not low enough to put the outcome in doubt. And I could watch the rerun of A-Rod's interference play all night. In hockey, that would be a major penalty for slashing. Hockey ... now that's a sore subject around my house. Has anyone tackled a topic on the hockey MESS and ideas to salvage a season this year?

And did the archrival not only just defeat Manchester United, but do so in the most dramatic come-from-behind manner in the history of the soccer league? If so, then it's like that.

• My prediction: it's going to be Bosox against Houston, and Houston will take it. Why? Why, the ex-Cub factor, of course. See how many ex-Cubs are in the postseason And here's the sad truth about the Cubs disease A lifelong Cubs fan, I'm thinking of going anti-Cubs next year. A crazy thought, I know, but I think they might be dragging me down. I don't know who I should root for instead ... the White Sox don't excite me. Cards are close. Braves are on TV a lot. Those are the current top contenders for my affections. If Houston (gets to and) wins the Series, that would really be something.

You know, there's that designated hitter thing. 'The hell is up with that!) To somewhat echo Jerry Garcia's original sentiment, I'm not even an American League fan but I've shown no interest in the NL playoffs thus far. It's been the Yankees/Sox series that has won my attention. Great ending; props to the Red Sox for making history.
• Well to be fair, the Yankees/Sox brought a LOT more history to the series than Cards/Stros. Although Cards have plenty of it. But did you see game 5 of the NLCS? I didn't either until after the 14th inning of ALCS, but what I caught in the interim was an awesome classic NL matchup that had a great inning. They can play some baseball, no doubt.

Pete_best called it: I know, I know, there aren't any baseball teams outside of New England worth paying attention to, and really no other states should be allowed teams at all, but if you haven't been watching the NLCS, you've missed one hell of a series. • I've been having an argument with a number of friends who say that the Red Sox' victory over the Yankees will be forgotten if the Sox don't win the World Series. I say, "Hogwash!" People still talk about the Bucky Dent homer in 1978, and that took place during the regular season. Of course this will be remembered! What do you folks think?

Yankees fans may WANT to forget it, but no one forgets something HISTORICAL and this was the Yankees committed the biggest collapse in MLB HISTORY. No team has ever started a best-of-seven series by winning their first three and then losing the series. That was epic.

• I'm not really a baseball fan, but seeing the Yankees beaten soundly did feel good, perhaps because the dirtiest player in baseball, Alex Rodriguez, had to suck it up after lamely swatting the ball out of the pitcher's glove as he was getting tagged. Then Rodriguez had the temerity to crybaby about it and claim innocence. So, good riddance to the most overpaid (and, my wife wants me to add, ugliest) whiners in the baseball world.
