Bush's Church calls him a Criminal - "We, the undersigned, do hold that George W. Bush, a member of Park Hill United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas, and Dick Cheney (local membership unknown) are undeniably guilty of at least four chargeable offenses [which] are: crime, immorality, disobedience to the Order and Discipline of The UMC..." And goatfucking.

Oh, I made that last one up, but this is still funny.

  • So, both candidates have been kicked out of their respective churches? Heh. The thing about this petition, is anyone can sign it, regardless if they go to church with Bush or not. Anyone could've made it, too (I think, I've never tried making a petition at petitiononline, I've just seen so damn many that I assume it's a simple process).
  • Man. They said it was gonna get ugly, but what's next? Accusations of pedophilia? Because it's getting close to that level. I don't think Bush shows the "fruits of his faith," as the scripture puts it, but really, I long for a day when a candidate's professed religion will be irrelevant, and you know him by his works. Because really, that's the thing.
  • This "petition" confuses me a bit. I see no evidence that it was started by anyone in authority at either Bush's home church or by a regional or national branch of the church (as I assumed when I read the post). Is this just another online petition or does it hold some authority?
  • I thought he went to Landover Baptist?
  • This strikes me as a bit extreme (calling for ending his membership), but I'm glad some of my fellow Methodists are at least standing up and clarifying that he doesn't speak for all of us. Honestly, I was more than a bit surprised to find out that he's a Methodist. I would have guessed Southern Baptist or A.G., given some of his statements regarding faith, morality, etc.
  • Why would this be a big deal to anybody? Bush hasn't been to this church (or -any- church for that matter, except for campaign time) in over a decade!

  • I live in Dallas and have visited Park Hill United Methodist Church on several occasions. Drive by it all the time. I find it incredible that he ever had anything to do with the place. Then again, I find it incredible that he and I used to share a city. *shudder*
  • Uh, for reference's note, both me and the petition got that name wrong. It's Highland Park United Methodist Church, not Park Hill UMC. Still the same place I was talking about, though.
