Freeway Blogger Via DailyKos: the anonymous Freeway Blogger has recruited over 1,000 foot soldiers in 48 states to create low-tech, high-visibilty freeway signs to broadcast political protest against the junta- I mean, the administration. A whole slew of blisteringly clever ones reached commuters all over the United States for the hitherto unknown occassion of "National Freeway Free Speech Day" on October 13.

Note "How To" section, including placement strategies.

  • Nice. BTW, can anyone trace the origin of that "don't change horsemen mid-apocalypse" thing? The best I could come up with was from February - "On the well, I think"
  • I always understood it to be a clever take off from 'Wag the Dog.' The campaign slogan for the fictional President was Never change horses in midstream!
  • "Not one mistake?" was pretty good. The "W" plays were also cute and cutting. I think I saw one here in Seattle, but it was a Nader appearance ad.
  • Oh man, these are good. It inspires me to make my own. Why don't they have another Sign Day? In San Antonio back in 1991 I anonymously planted a sign that said "Civic Responsibility Ends Here" next to a "City Maintenance Ends Here" sign. It got on the evening news!
  • I first saw the "don't change horseman" thing about 6 or 7 months ago in a MeFi comment to a political post (what else?). I forget which one and I didn't know if it was original with the poster, but when people commented on it he/she didn't deny responsibility
  • These made me feel alot better, everywhere I go in my area I see Bush signs, kind of gives me the anxiety... I don't get this one though
  • re roly- every day until nov 2 is sign day. every day after that too, depends on what you care about. (cable ties are good) re cali- the bc04 site had a script up where you could enter a slogan and it would put it on a gif of a bc04 sign. dems used it to make jokes, and wonkette listed the funniest ones. don't change horsemen mid apocolypse, why change gangs mid-bang, etc. the script has since been taken down. you can search wonkette or google for the best-ofs.
  • I saw some of these in Little Rock, Arkansas today (corner of Bowman and Kanis, for anyone who knows it)--they were big pieces of corrugated cardboard with a stencil of GW Bush's face and under it "LIAR" stencilled in black spraypaint. Some had two faces, one with "LIAR" and the other with "ONE-TERM PRESIDENT" under them. I don't doubt but they'll be ripped down soon, like my Kedwards yard sign was. (Had a topic on it, but it went poof.) If I had a digital camera that worked, I'd go down there to get a shot of guerilla blogging in action.
