A hella long time ago, the first version of Mosaic Netscape was unleashed onto the world. You can still check for compatibility with older releases, read bombastic news releases, check where the pioneers are at. You can also remember the first browser war or help win the second.
  • sorry to get off the main issue, but may i just say how pleased i am to see the suck link? the internet was a better place when they were around - the filler columns alone completely justified the whole invention of the web.
  • It was intentional. In fact, today, Polly Esther herself ordered the World to read this old filler.
  • when i was sixteen i was sure she would one day be my wife. over these last eight years i have come to doubt it. sigh.
  • i once wrote joey anuff an angry email asking him to cut out the "summer vacation" bullshit and admit that suck was dead. i didn't get a reply. filler kept me happy for years. i still lament the loss of the girl who did the strange stories embedded in the alt tags. and the columns? some of the best writing i saw on the web for years. never too long, always relevant, always witty. i can't understand how that was killed in favor of plastic.com, which i really don't like. thanks for the trip down memory lane, richer - and not just for the suck reminescing. netscape 1.1 still lives on my hard drive. i use it to test web pages. if i can't read all of the content in 1.1, then i don't consider the page worth posting yet. (it's a little easier than using a screen reader or text browser.)
  • (oh. and upon testing, poor little netscape 1.1 doesn't seem to think monkeyfilter exists. it can find mefi though. odd.)
  • caution: huh? alt-what?! Can you give me an example of said alt-tag stories? I think I'm missing on something.
  • vamoose: here's the plan I came to in my sleep: 1) move to LA 2) meet Polly Esther 3) ??? 4) Prof^H^H^H^HMarriage!@#
  • Oh, and for those who don't want to download 740k to experience 1994, just use the browser emulator.
  • That was cool, Richer.
