Juris my diction crap A new US Treasury ruling states that US citizens cannot consume Cuban goods anywhere in the world. Full stop. Travel abroad and smoke them there, and you’ll still go to prison.
  • Sniff, so long, Buena Vista Social Club.....
  • So long going over to Windsor Casino and lighting up. Two problems I have with it. First is I wonder how they would enforce it. The second is that I wonder if there are precedents for being charged with crimes committed overseas.
  • ... crimes of treason? Buahahahahaha
  • shawnj, you just made the list. Troublemaker. *scribble, scribble*
  • They can take my Cubans away, but they will have to pry an Opus X from my cold, dead, hands.
  • Maybe this is BC04 pandering to anti-castro cubans in florida. It does raise some interesting questions and set even more interesting precedents regarding jurisdiction. I don't smoke cigars, but what could come next?
  • *boggles* Wow, the US government is rediscovering the concept of the personality of law, and in a particularly stupid way. There are precedents for this kind of thing, but they're not really in the American tradition of jurisprudence. They go back a lot further, like the Germanic kingdoms of western Europe after the fall of Rome.
  • I love cigars -- or did, before I gave up nicotine. I finally got to smoke a Cuban Montecristo while on honeymoon in Mexico. Most overrated damn cigar I ever put in my face. Nevertheless, this strikes me as supremely stupid and pretty much unenforceable. Hell, even Limbaugh admits to smoking Cuban cigars. Can we move on, please?
  • Stupidity, on such a grand scale must be observed and derided, lest it becomes acceptable. MiddleClassTool, yes we should move on, but only after having pointed and laughed so that others pondering equally stupid legislation will at least think twice.
  • Limbaugh's a total commie - get with it MCT ;)
  • Sorry, didn't mean the "move on" thing to refer to the post, but to such idiotic legislation. Seriously, they spent our time and tax dollars coming up with this little nugget in the hopes of combating that supreme threat to national security...CUBA.
  • So, they're going after the Jewish vote in NY by rating foreign governments' treatment of Jews, and after the Floridian Cuban vote by bringing in a unilateral world-wide ban on the fruits of Castro's communism. All we need now is for Osama to jump out of the hat, and the election is assured.
  • All we need now is for Osama to jump out of the hat Pick a bunny—any bunny
  • AGENT SMITH Lieutenant? LIEUTENANT Oh shit. AGENT SMITH Lieutenant, you were given specific orders -- LIEUTENANT I'm just doing my job. You gimme that Juris my diction crap and you can cram it up your ass. AGENT SMITH The orders were for your protection. (The Lieutenant laughs.) LIEUTENANT I think we can handle one little girl cuban cigar.
  • How about clothing? Does anyone honestly check the tags of clothes they buy on vacation abroad? What if my next vacation T-shirt just happens to be hecho en Cuba? Oops, I'm smuggling Cuban goods into the US!
  • Our priorities are so fucked up I don't even know where to begin.
  • Cuban cigars suck, for the most part. Give me a Nicaraguan or Honduran, they're much nicer.
  • Cuban cigars suck, for the most part. Give me a Nicaraguan or Honduran, they're much nicer. What's a recommendation there f8x? My last day of work at "silly computer job" is this Friday and I was going to get a cigar to unhealthily celebrate. (I bet Fidel lit up one of his personal stock when he heard of the ruling and smiled)
  • BearGuy - Fidel gave up smoking
  • Fidel gave up smoking Somehow, this doesn't surprise me, though I do feel such an action is counterrevoluntionary. Or is it countercounterrevoluntionary?
  • BearGuy, if you can find one, an Opus X is excellent, but usually expensive (retailers must be certified to carry them). Also, if you like a heavier smoke, try any of the La Gloria Cubana Maduro's. They are both cheap AND good. If you like a lighter smoke, try an Onyx. The Onyx, however, is also leaning towards the expensive end of the scale.
  • BearGuy, I'd heartily recommend any of Montecristo's non-Cuban smokes. Avo makes some good ones, reasonably priced. So does Fuente.
  • Oh, oh, Ramon Allones Trump! /ex-smokerdrool
  • Ah excellent! But wait, I just thought of something. Are they really against Cuban music as well?
  • What about bringing back a Cuban beat?
  • Shouldn't be a problem if you download the music.
  • This is some jaw-droppin' stupid shit. Cuba is a problem? You could throw goddamn forks at a world map for an hour and pretty much anything you hit'll be more of a threat than Cuba. Let's try it, shall we? North Korea China Pakistan Saudi Arabia Iran Chechnya Russia Former Yugoslavia in all its incarnations Canada with its deadly prescriptions Neverland Ranch Freedonia Springfield Pitcairn Island Kids with rocks Bugs that freak people out Dogs that growl for no reason
  • You forgot PolandTexas.
  • This will not be unenforcable once the Bush administration increases the budget of the "CUban Narc Teams" or C.U.N.T.S. The last I heard, the 2005 budget of this offshoot of the Treasury Department was going to be in the billions of dollars. In these uncertain times, we can't back down from the threat that poor dictatorial countries possess. We all know for a fact that the sale of cigars and rum finance Cuba's mad plans of world domination. By denying Cuba the thousands of dollars that they recieve from otherwise well-meaning Americans who buy Cohibas, we can put an end to Castro's reign of terror in the Caribbean so that it can once again be a place where Sandals resorts are free to pursue the American dream of screwing foreign workers. Viva la puta BUSH!
  • BearGuy, a good Macanudo, though they're a bit heavy. Villazon Hatsas are excellent, if you can find them. I also smoke Punch (not my faves though), and Excaliburs. Make sure you get cigars that are rolled with tobacco from a good weather year. Bad weather can wreak havoc with a good roll.
  • Fidel must be having such a fun time with this...
  • I'm planning to go to Cuba in a few months. Anyone want anything?
  • How 'bout some healthcare ;)
  • Ah, Excaliburs. I remember them well... *salutes f8x, wipes tear from eye*
  • And don't you dare eat any candy manufactured in Canada, or any other country besides the United States -- they don't use Archer Daniels Midland Corn Syrup in those foreign countries, they use Sugar. Communist Cane Sugar. Yes, corn syrup is bad for your health. http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0ISW/is_241-242/ai_107201210 But it's patriotic. What can we learn from history? http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/bayofpigs/chron.html
  • All we need now is for Osama to jump out of the hat
We have a pizza company helping with that.
