Curious Anonymous George: So mefi has a sort of stop-gap measure for asking those embarrassing questions. But what I want to know is how do they get answered? I asked but they deleted me.
  • Oh. Now they've added that maybe "someone will ask them for you on metafilter." But that wasn't there before. No, really. It wasn't. I swear.
  • Another Mefite posts the question in AskMe via the anonymous website. After they post the question, they delete it from the anonymous site. Clear as mud?
  • Now it is. I'm going to go cry in the corner now
  • I'm going to go cry in the corner now Be of good cheer! I am still kind of puzzled by one part of this idea myself. So... say that I'm a MeFi user and I read a question on the anon site. Why would someone believe that it's not really me asking about dandruff or cheating at bingo. You know, like the old "my friend wants advice on how to prevent his dandruff from interfering when he cheats at bingo. But it's not me, honest!" Personally, I love the idea because it's so low-tech. I would have thought there'd be some kind of anonymizing server, encryption, and perhaps tinfoil hats involved. But a simple blog, whoda thunk it?
  • I have a, um, "friend" who is ***NOT*** the quidnunc kid -- and I'd like to emphasize that last part -- who wants to know if there's anything at all sick or perverted about shoving celery stalks up his bum while reading Kant's Critique of Pure Reason and humming "YMCA" to himself. Can anyone help him?
  • I have this friend... he'll be mortified if I give away his name so let's call him "averagesizetool..." who wants to know if there are any homeopathic cures for the clap that will save him from an embarrasing trip to the doctor. Anyone? Bueller?
  • I have this friend... Let's just call him Wendell... D'OH!!!
  • The only thing sick and perverted about your friend is his fascination with that fraud, Kant. Do him a favour and give him a copy of Heidegger's Sein und Zeit. If that's too heavy for him, he should try Johann Gottlieb Fichte's Attempt at a Critique of All Revelation or Hegel's Phänomenologie des Geistes.
  • I make a fool of myself on a regular basis and pefer to ask my own embarrassing questions. Hey it's the net, what are people going to do, point and laugh? ;) finds all of this highly amusing
  • I don't get it. Why not just use this Anon. site and whoever wants to can answer on the same. Why does it have to be transfered to AskMe at all?
  • It's all moot now because mathowie has created the ability to ask.mefi anonymously. It just struck me as funny at the time. Anyway I sort of like the idea of Anonymous George posts beginning with "a friend of mine was wondering..." Oh, and for the "unknown" (note entirely correct use of quotes in the advised sense) celery stalk addict I've heard that carrot sticks are better for cognitive processes.
  • I have this bump on my penis...oh, wait, that is my... Never mind.
  • One student, let's refer to her as "Lisa S"...no, that's no good, let's call her "L. Simpson..." Close enough.
  • Is anyone else still confused by this whole discussion?
  • What happened to "login"?
  • I don't see how anonymous question posting is going to improve the level of discourse at AskMe. If anything, there will be more stupid questions that should have been answered with a little Googling. "Oh no! My shoe's untied! What do I do?"
  • What happened to "login"? Ahh, memories. And coffee coming out of my nose.
  • "Oh no! My shoe's untied! What do I do?" posted by cabingirl at 02:51PM UTC on October 13 [edit: obligatory sock reference removed]
  • So matthowie won't add any new members, but wants to allow the unwashed masses the possibility that some mefite will ask their question for them? hmmmm...
  • Look, do you have anything to say about your MeFite betters? If all you want to say is "hmmm...", you should just keep your "opinion" to yourself. Know your place.
  • *Horrrible analogy involving corpses, tuxedoes, and bathtub gin expanded to include chorus shouting questions at the principles throughout the play*
  • ...Know your place... Who knew that The Rock posts on MoFi? :)
