Mike's Amazing Cakes
Check out the galleries. Cakes shaped like Austin Powers, a knight in armor, a luxury cruise liner, an Italian villa, paint cans, a violin, and more. Just astonishingly well done. My favorite is the cake made to look like a slab of steak for a vegetarian's birthday. [via]
First post.

Wow, those are really great. Nice post. I like Reba McIntyre's Fritos cake.
-
Those're incredible! If I had a cake that pretty, I wouldn't want to eat it...
-
Those are amazing cakes, but I have to say, the Fritos one is so realistic, it makes me wonder whether it's just a bag of Fritos or not.
-
Yeah, the Fritos one is really amazing, as is the violin.
-
Yeah, yeah. Artistry at it's best and all that. But you can't top sexy cakes.

Feasts for the eyes are food for thought: men ponder how time flies, and appetite does not.

Looks like fondant, gum paste, and an airbrush to me. Not that big of a deal - given a few months of training, anyone with half an artistic eye could do the same. The materials aren't hard to work with in the least. I'd wager that making the cake properly sized and self-supporting is the difficult part - the "frosting" (which is, in all these cases, done with rolled fondant placed over the cake rather than the traditional way, from what I can see) and airbrushing of colors (or possibly using a real paintbrush and edible watercolors) isn't really that bad at all.

All superb cakeage, I must say - but all paling into comparison when compared to your username, TayBridgeDisaster. I'm giggling like a drunken fuck* as I type that. *Which I am, admittedly.

I met a man last night; people, he was just my size, Met a man last night people, he was just my size. I taken him home with me to bake my cakes and pies. He's a kitchen mechanic, and he makes my biscuits rise, He's a kitchen mechanic, and he makes my biscuits rise, Uses the best bakin' powder, and his biscuit's just my size -- lyrics from an old blues song Just so ye sll understand what's really cooking when the ostensible subject is food. /Famished!

So you're a fan of the marvelous William McGonagall, eh, flashboy? And you may be right, musingmelpomene- but I'd sure hate to be the one who bakes your next birthday cake.
-
TayBridgeDisaster: Good on you, mate. Have a banana. Somehow these cakes smack of EXCESS. And musingmelpomene, what kind of cakes do you make, hmmmmm? Bees: I'm going to have a scoop of banalla with mine--care for one? Flashboy, being frunken duck is one thing, posting sober is another.

The devil delights in breeding family strife, Especially betwixt man and wife; And if the husband comes home drunk at night, He laughs and cries, ha! ha! what a beautiful sight. --William McGonagall, "A New Temperance Poem, in Memory of My departed Parents, Who Were Sober Living & God Fearing People"

I would like nothing better, o beautiful BlueHorse!

A New Temperance Poem, in Memory of My departed Parents, Who Were Sober Living & God Fearing People His reputation really is well merited.

'Fraid so, Wolof. Though I think he's scarcely a patch on Julia Moore, the Sweet Singer of Michigan, and author of "Lord Byron: a Critical Survey": "Lord Byron" was an Englishman, A poet I believe, His first works in old England Was poorly received. Perhaps it was "Lord Byron's" fault And perhaps it was not. His life was full of misfortunes, Ah, strange was his lot. Those first two lines are, for me, the most breath-taking couplet in the English language.

Thanks, bees, absolutely effin' rancid.

Great post. Thanks, and welcome.
