Bush's Hometown Paper Endorses John Kerry The comments about social security are on the mark. Why would any president want to dismantle social security at a time when it is helping pay off the deficit during a war. This is fucking insane. I smell a rat.

  • Meanwhile: Fox wins an exclusive contract to videograph the first debate. The Gallup organization is nominated to select the audience for the second 'town hall' debate. Bush will probably skip the third debate. This endorsement is no victory for the Dems.
  • The location of a newspaper has absolutely no relevance. If the Boston Globe came out against Kerry, that would likely be a slightly bigger deal because of the scope of the Globe's audience. But this small town paper isn't in the same league, and it's endorsement of Kerry can't be construed to mean that "Texas" is "against" Bush.
  • I don't think anyone believes this is the BIG TICKET ENDORSEMENT that will bring Texas to Kerry. But it is a perhaps slightly humorous indicator of the shifting tides of even the faithful Bush-followers. Bush will still win Texas, no doubt. Yet, I think this gives a pinhole view of what may be happening on a more national scale.
  • i believe this paper was launched in 2000 specifically to be a spur in bush's proverbial cowboy boots... and it has the, ah, impressive circulation of 425 souls.

  • I think the main point of interest in the op-ed is Bush trying to change social security over during a deficit. First off it would take at least $1 trillion to do so. Also, the government is dipping into social security during this deficit. This simply is like the government wants to put a shotgun in it's mouth and blow it's brains out. No wonder Bush ran so many companies into the ground.
