Continued from here. It's only a couple more days to the 1st, so shall we try for next week instead?

I'll be taking the train down to St. Pancras from Loughborough. I might be going to London anyway next week because I might be meeting some other friends, but that's all in the air right now. I might end up in Durham instead, actually. I am thinking 6th Oct, since registration is on 3rd and 4th, and there's some welcome tea reception on 5th. Lessons aren't likely to start so soon, so I think I can make it to London in the afternoon on 6th. I probably will find a place to bunk overnight, and take the morning train back to Loughborough, if that's the case. Otherwise, the weekend looks good also. I'm not registered as a student yet, so I have no privileges in the uni. Couldn't even get them to write me a letter confirming I'm staying in UK to study, so I had lots of trouble opening my bank account. Right now my status is rather nebulous, until I get my student card next week.

  • 6th is good. The area around St Pancras is not very promising, so far as I know, so maybe somewhere a short tube journey away - Covent Garden? What sort of venue would you favour yourself, Alnedra?
  • *waves to UK monkeys across the pond*
  • I much prefer the 6th to the 5th, personally.
  • 6th a possibility for me also ...
  • Drinking-trouser pre-inflation sequence initiated! The 6th would be super. As would Covent Garden.
  • Hmmm, 6th you say? I'll check my diary. Oh wait, I don't have a diary.
  • 6th sounds grand, as does Covent Garden, but I was having fun in that other thread pretending to cavity-search dreadnought. I'm just saying ...
  • Covent Garden would be fine. I'm not that familiar with London, actually, except for the insides of the museums, so any suggestions would be taken with enthusiasm unless quidnunc makes something up about cavity searches, then no. So we're set for the 6th then?
  • Found the public library, and I'm allowed to be a member. Yay! Going back to get my passport and stuff to register. Think I can use the PCs after that.
  • In order to further entertain myself, I shall now conduct a thorough exploration of my own cavities - a "fantastic voyage", if you will. I shall post notable results of this journey of discovery as and when they occur. First stop: my navel! A rhapsody in lint!
  • Never mind your cavities, quidnunc: what's a decent place to meet in Covent Garden? I assume the Punch and Judy will be too full of tourists? Is it a pub we're looking for? Wine bar? Restaurant? Or do we create a small flash mob in the Banana Bookshop, all asking for the complete works of Beeswacky? :)
  • Hmmm ... good question. I never really hang in that garden ... there are some terribly touristy and yuppiesque places there. I vote for a relaxed public bar setting, with beverages that are reasonably priced, and service that just can't be beat. Not sure where that is, however. I'll have a think.
  • How about The Corner Store, in Wellington Street, just down from the Royal Opera House? It's easy enough to find. There's a few other places along that street, as well.
  • Sounds good. So: back to the pilgrimage through my cornucopia of cavities, and, leaving the delights of my navel, we travel north to savour the sweet delights of my nostrils. Come with me as together we explore these twin tunnels of olfactory sensation, these multiple mucus-producing marvels!
  • Sounds okay - me, I'd have suggested The Chandos just off Trafalgar Square (huge, quite, lovely, cheap), or perhaps somewhere above Oxford Street in Fitzrovia - me not got love for the Garden - but the Corner Store sounds decent. Oh, and I can do the 6th. Obviously.
  • Either one looks good - although not as good as the murky yet inviting depths of my inner ear! Pray, who will voyage together with me in this wonderland of wax?
  • Hey! Why not have a meetup right now?
  • who will voyage together with me in this wonderland of wax? Yo, quidnunc, you can make that voyage more swimming by taking a capful 1/2 hydrogen peroxide, 1/2 water. It softens that them thar wax up well. Oh, and I'll meet you at the pancreas.
  • Bah! I am taking my toys and going home!
  • If it's to be Covent Garden surely it should be the Lamb and Flag surely one of the best pubs in London, though Alnedra may be shocked by the expense ...
  • I like Trafalgar Square! (I also like cheap.)
  • Dreadnought is with me, in the para-monkey breakaway insurgency group moving towards what is (I learn) the local pub for the staff of the National Gallery, also my favourite Pet Shop Boys-watching venue. The Chandos, I mean. But, y'know, I'm cool with whatever. (Lamb + Flag also greeeedy*, lovin' that shit) *New term of approval for shit that's, like, just got too much good shit in it.
  • I'm for "hangin' tough" in my left ventricle. I think I lost BearGuy in my gall bladder :(
  • Woah. Ok, we've got The Corner Shop, the Lamb and Flag, and the Chandos. Well, even if it's expensive (and trust me, after one before-showtime meal that blew me back 70 quid, very little will shock me now), it's only this once, so I guess I can still afford it. *looks hopefully in pocket*
  • Damn me. I forgot to ask, which place gets the most votes?
  • meal that blew me back 70 quid [Insert Joke Here]
  • Sorry. I'm easy ... wherever Alnedra is, that's where I wanna be.
  • TEA! I have TEA! And a mooncake!
  • ME TOO!!!!! Yay for Alnedra!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Wonderful surprise to see the mooncake, too. Your just the best, Alnedra! I'm giving you many hugs and kisses from afar!
  • Now hurry up and email us your address, please. :) *continues sniffing jasmine tea smell*
  • I might have a job interview on the 6th (and I won't find out until tuesday if I do) so I probably won't be able to make it. But if I can, I'll be there (wherever there is)
  • Don't know the Corner Shop (but it looks good). The Lamb and Flag is great, and would preserve our record of only going to pubs frequented by Samuel Pepys: but it does get a bit crowded, doesn't it? Last time I went there I had to stand up the whole time with barely room to raise my glass. The Chandos has got plenty of room and is pretty suitable for our purposes in most other ways (who was it that liked Sam Smith's??). I suppose it's one stop further on the tube for Alnedra (walk from Leicester Square?) but that's not a particularly big deal. Hope the interview goes well if it does happen, dng.
  • Great! I was on tenterhooks, wondering when the stuff would arrive. I'd rather a more roomy place where I can sit down, preferably. My gamey ankle tends to seize up on me if I stand too long. If the Corner Shop's not got too many seats, perhaps the Chandos then? Address soon forthcoming!
  • And dng, if you do have the interview (lots of luck!) maybe you can join us after? *hopeful look*
  • Alnedra - you have a dodgy ankle too? - many comiserations ... The Lamb and Flag is very crowded early evening, but thins out nicely (esp upstairs) after the suits go home, but I'm good with the Chandos and Sam Smiths is lovely (and cheap!) Thumbs up DNG - hope it goes well
  • My tea got here today! We had a small tea party with oolong and a bit of moon cake. Really wonderful stuff! Thank you, thank you, Alnedra! You're the best!
  • So glad it got there safely, path :) Shall we make it Chandos then (would you mind terribly, Plegmund)? And the
  • Not a bit - the Chandos is fine with me. Unfortunately, a small difficulty has come up - I probably need to go and look at one of my daughter's prospective schools that evening. But if so I can come along later (assuming you'll still be there a bit later in the evening?). Happy birthday, Flashboy!
  • Hee hee! I just saw a squirrel!
  • Happy day after the day after your birthday, flashster. Long may you reign - for you, sir, are a jolly good fellow. And so say all of us.
  • *wonders if she can find a after-birthday-present for flashboy* If it's not too troublesome for you, Plegmund :) Another idea is if we postponed this another week? Would that be better? I just got my timetable, and I have Fridays off! *Does Happy Dance* So... if we can meet on a Thursday, I can come back to Loughborough on the last train, and get back into bed about 2am without worrying about lessons next morning :)
  • I'm vewwy vewwy sorry about this last-minute suggestion for change in plans. *bows*
  • *Exiting Quidnunc's gall bladder Happy belated birthday Flashboy! Good to know there's plenty of Libran monkeys. As a completely self-referential note, today, Sputnik Day is also BGB Day aka BearGuy's Birthday! A few more hours at work, then off to revelry!
  • Happy to postpone (to 14th?) if you like, Alnedra (but I'll be OK either way). Happy Birthday, BearGuy!
  • I was born in Sputnik year, since you mention it...
  • Thank you, Plegmund. Would everyone mind very much? We'll make it the 14th then? Then I can stay out really late (as long I can get to St. Pancras by 11.23pm!) Much love to you BearGuy. I will forever remember that your birthday was the first day of term for my master's course. I'll tell you later whether that'll make me love you or hate you ;)
  • Happy birthday, BearGuy! I also am cool with either the 6th or the 14th. Beer is eternal, after all.
  • Oh, delay would be very good. I have to hand something important to my supervisor on the 8th, and I don't think I can justify going out before that to myself.
  • So it's all for the best then :) London Mofi Meetup - The Sequel Date: 14th Oct 2004 Location: Chandos, London Time: Uh...?
  • Time: Howsabout 7.00 pm for 7.30pm (depending on when people get off work)?
