Fear and Laptops on the Campaign Trail Via Bark Bark Wolf Wolf: Excellent (and long) New York Times magazine article on the lefty political bloggers at the conventions. It's also interesting that Josh Marshall and Ana Marie Cox went out of their way to not hangout with other bloggers. Also, is it me or does Cox intentionally strike a seductive pose when there's a camera near.

Shocking piece of news from article: Daily Kos is getting more traffic than Instapundit now. The part in the article of Cox badly wanting to get hired by MTV is either hysterical or sad. I let you decide. My thoughts: Kos came of as an ass in his article. Jesse and Ezra at Pandagon seem to be getting a lot of action. Who knew that blogging was the gateway to getting laid?

  • Wonkette never struck me as particularly legitimate as a 'blogger'. She's just a wholly owned subsidiary of Nick Denton Enterprises. Plus it is obvious that Mr. Klam was wishing that he was that oyster.
  • Plus it is obvious that Mr. Klam was wishing that he was that oyster. Klam was admiring... err, her wit.
  • For the record: Ana Marie Cox is seriously hot.
  • We're talking about the Wonkette, right? I don't know who owns her but I loved it when she posted excerpts from Lynn Cheney's one-handed book. Sometimws she comes up with great stuff, but I have to take her in small doses.
  • Oooh, a NYT article acting all superior about bloggers. They've had a bit of thing for this since they discovered blogs a few months ago, haven't they? I eagerly anticipate the day when the novelty value wears off, and this internet thing you read about in the newspapers is seen for exactly what it is, which is a medium like any other. For the record: Wonkette is funny.
  • Shocking piece of news from article: Daily Kos is getting more traffic than Instapundit now. Shocking to whom? That's old news among bloggers, I'm afraid. Kos came of as an ass in his article. I think that's one of Markos' big problems: that for whatever other contributions he makes, he's basically an ass, and that comes across. Many folks have never forgiven him — will never forgive him — for his "screw them" remark.
  • Was that remark about the fried-mercs-hanging-from-trees incident? If so, it was quite apt, IMFO.
  • Whatever part of Cox's desire to jump to a bigger gig is real, or simply projected by the article writer, it all makes sense to me. As has been pointed out before, Wonkette is a wholly owned subsidiary of Somebody-Else's-Stuff. It's not her blog, it's her gig. So why shouldn't she want to jump to another gig, possibly one that leads her smoky pouty sultry spicy sexy ... *slap* ... self to even more national coverage (and a better salary). What I did find enlightening was that there really was so much traffic flowing through the political blogs. I've been keeping myself out of that particular circle of nerdom, so I appreciate getting an occasional update on how stuff on that side of the fence is going.
  • I sort of can't believe they didn't talk more about little green footballs and the free republic and whoever else (sorry, i can't keep up). I mean, for one thing, they're more *ahem* entertaining to read (after months of reading, I still am not inured to the open calls for all out racial extermination people post on those sites pretty much every day - it's like coffee; wakes you right up), and for another, it's pretty interesting to note how they usually disagree about every detail of every story, except that whatever it is it must be the media's fault because they're always working for/submitting to the other guy.
  • I tried reading LGF for a few days, just for the exercise, and I couldn't do it. It drove me physically ill. (I expect the freepers have the same reaction to DemocraticUnderground or dKos.) I'm surprised you willingly put yourself through this torture, even if you are entertained by it. There are, after all, far saner voices on the right — OxBlog and Volokh are two ready examples.
  • I am emancipated by blogg!
  • So what does "freeper" mean? If it refers to readers of FreeRepublic, how does it relate to readers of LGF? Also, does linking to LGF mean that we have a feud with them?* *last sentance only 1/2 serious
  • Och, will you look who it is, writing for the big, grown-up Guardian, which is a real newspaper. With paper. Awwww!
  • So what's the deal with Nick Denton Enterprises? Anyone?
  • Flash, the sad thing about that Guardian article is that is a picture of Moulitsas' happy face. If someone gave me a choice between being stuck on an island with Moulitsas or Glenn Reynolds I pick the nutty professor.
  • So what's the deal with Nick Denton Enterprises? Anyone? Denton is a dot com guy who has figured out how to make a small profit off of blogs. Unlike (cough) Evan Williams. Speaking of Williams: isn't it funny how he bragged about selling Blogger to Google and now he's working for Google and not any richer. Explain that one to me?

posted by Sullivan at 08:07PM UTC on September 28 I confess I don't know anything about this matter, but I'm assuming the options boat did not leave him too far behind. Isn't he yet another mad mad money paper gagillionare, or have I been reading too many Ernie posts about Google?
