Russ Meyer, 1922-2004
The king of sexploitation is no more.

A favourite of my adolescence, as his movies would be shown on a local TV channel after midnights on Fridays. "Up" and "Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill" are definite classics of B theatre. RIP.

A man of many talents

Absolutely the B-Movie King.
-
Didn't Ebert write scripts for Meyer?
-
He wrote "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls."
-
He helped write it, didn't he?
-
I believe "helped" is correct.

According to imdb, they shared the story credit, but he gets sole screenplay credit. He did co-author another of Meyer's movies -- well, check it out

My husband (a Russ Meyer fan) has this to say about the obit: Russ Meyer, producer-director who helped spawn the "skin flick" with such films as "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" This is wrong - Meyer's much earlier work like "The Immoral Mr. Teas" is what helped pioneer skin flicks (ie his stuff in the late 50's). By the mid-60's, he tried to move AWAY from skin flicks to more generally violent and less sexy exploitation stuff, and films like "Motor Psycho" and "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" are from this period. After his flirtation with major studios ("Beyond the Valley of the Dolls"), he returned to softcore porn, only preserved elements of the outrageous violence of "Faster Pussycat". Lesson: If you write an obituary article, you should know your subject matter better.
