The Invisible Library - A place for books that only exist in other books.
  • Allow me to be the first to say, I think this is AWESOME, although I don't know exactly why. My inner English Lit Geek coming out, I guess.
  • That's really cool. I don't read fiction much, but the few I could think of are there (Apocrypha of Muad'Dib, Orange Catholic Bible (Revised) and Instruction Manual: Missionaria Protectiva) The Necronomicon is also there, so that settles it, doesn't it ?
  • H.P. Lovecraft could have his own wing in this library. I've always wanted to read the forbidden tomes, but I fear the Nameless Ones, and some knowledge is madness. ;E (Cthulhu emoticon)
  • this is an example of what makes this whole internet thing worthwhile. great find!
  • I kind of wish they had also sorted it by fake author as well. Would be interesting to see how many fake ancient texts have been created with apparently no author. ;E (Cthulhu emoticon) I'm going to have to remember that. Hilarious.
  • Best emoticon ever.
  • Thank God! My local library lost their copy of Menard's Quixote years ago, and I haven't been able to find a copy since...
  • *applauds* this is super-duper awesome. thanks. too bad he/they stopped working on it. seems like a fun project to participate.
  • This is a very good post, f8x! )))))
  • I'm a big fan of the Stansilaw Lem, the Polish science ficton author. He's written a number of reviews and introductions for imaginary books, which are included here. Some of them are books that never *could* be written, like "One Human Minute" which is supposed catalog what everyone on earth is doing during one particular 60 second period. Good stuff.
  • Lovely post f8x! *joins in applause, sends link to book-club-geek friends*
  • An excellent link, f8ymulder, sure to waste hours of my time. Thanks!
  • My faves all come from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy...
  • Well, that about wraps it up for God.
  • my alltime favourite "invisible book" is the one in Philip Dick's 'Man in the High Castle', but i cant remember its name now... Grasshopper something...
  • Grasshopper Lies Heavy according to this site, dhruva. As for me, alas, couldn't find All Previous Thought, my absolute favorite book title. I believe it was mentioned in a real book called The Pooh Perplex whose authorship now escapes me, but which consisted of a number of highly facetious papers dealing with the Winnie the Pooh stories.
  • The Dick thing was quite an impressive piece of metafiction, I thought. I really admired how he played one alternate history off of the other.
  • The Dick thing was quite an impressive piece of metafiction (eeybita eeybita) ;E
