Alaska to Argentina.
Lois wanted an adventure - so she rode a motorbike from Alaska to Terra del Fuego, Argentina. Apart from flying from Panama to Ecuador, that's a ride clean through 2 continents.
Her bike was a modified Yamaha XT225. As a motorcyclist I'm both astonished and appalled by people who insist that 100 HP, 600cc bikes are "too small" and inadequate for any real task, so it's extra gratifying.

Nice link! This reminded me of one link, I thought I saw it on MeFi but I'm unable to find it there, about a fella who biked through Central America from the U.S. and kept a web journal or updated people through emails they posted later. Anybody have the link?
-
(Oh, and it was a bicycle, not a motorbike, if that helps anybody's googling.)
-
Are you thinking of this, PF?
-
Why no, but that will cerrrrtainly do!
-
There were also a couple of guys who rode a couch around Canada. Ah yes, here it is: historically insignificant link #5.

I agree rodgerd. But in this case she should have taken the A65 ;) If my little 250cc BSA had a little more umph I'd love to try something like that.
-
I would love to try this! Too bad she skipped Colombia (in her bike anyway) but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. I would love to do this, but that's when I'm older and perhaps a little sick of everyone.
-
I have met bikers on similar quests, and they traveled through Colombia with no problems at all. Violence is not so random as to require avoiding the place altogether! A pity indeed.

Let's keep in mind that while this is cool and all, not everyone can afford to do this. I know I sure couldn't afford to quit my job for a long stretch of time and pay for the gas and food while on the trip.
