  • humandictionnary: Haddock is a secondary (still major) character in the Belgian comic Tintin (He's the one with the beard on the picture). He happens to be a drunken sailor who's into creative cursing.

  • Anyone else remember the previous incarnation of the official site (tintin.be) had a flash app of the good captain cursing, en francais? So. Good. The best anecdote (is mentioned in the wikipedia entry for Captain Haddock): The surname was derived from a conversation that HergĂ© had with his wife, in which she mentioned that the haddock was a 'sad English fish'. HergĂ© chose this name accordingly.
  • I must protest. Captain Haddock is not a 'drunken sailor'. He is a highly decorated naval captain with an unfortunate tendency to drink to excess. One he countered in later years by swearing off the demon rum, although it only made him more prone to frustration and creative cursing. Cocolynths!!
