I thought The Onion was supposed to FUNNY not prophetic. It is truly amazing to review how much they got right-on-the-head (Jan. 18, 2001). Who says you can't make stuff like this up?
  • err... to _be_ FUNNY not...
  • I wonder what they predict for the election. I'm almost afraid to ask.
  • That's accurate. Too accurate. I'll have to find the book this from and check it out. Hmmm.
  • That's a little too much like a serious article. It disturbs me. There's nothing obvious on the rest of the site to indicate whether it's a real Onion article either. I didn't try too hard, though.
  • I take it back: a google search provides two links to the article in cached form, and the date is correct.
  • Yeah, it's real. I read it back when I used to read The Onion. *now prefers MoFi*
  • Yeah. I remember looking at this, and thinking, "Damn, I hope that's not as prophetic as it sounds." Oh, Auntie Em, Auntie Em, there's no place like home.
  • Here's another retrospective; this email started a truly inspiring Meta thread back in the day. (Don't you just love the way that sounds - heck, and I never even had an account. Anyway....) The Onion article is freaking scary though.
  • * patiently awaits Serbian peacekeepers *
  • I've run across that article a few times in the last three years, and have always stopped and checked off the bits that have become real -- now it's even better (and scarier) with the links. Thanks for posting it.
  • Or the Cuban election supervisors? Next, the Onion will have an article about the Supreme Court forbidding free speech. And I wonder.
  • It's all fun and games until he actually turns out to be as bad as you feared.
