ACLU + Rock ....+ avante garde composers, playwrites, foksingers, rappers, and token liberal actors.... Paul Simon, Lou Reed, Phillip Glass, Mos Def, Robin Williams, Sean Penn, Tony Kushner, Jake Gyllenhaal, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Edie Brickell, Lila Downs, Me'shell Ndegocello, Sarah Jones, and Nanci Griffith are assembling in New York City for the ACLU.
  • Me'shell got da funk.
  • Me'shell Ndegocello My goodness, is she still around? Last I heard of her, she was covering Van Morrison with John Cougar Mellancamp. /limps off, breaks crutch, falls /can't get up
  • Could you write a bit bigger please?
  • Actually, if I could play the bass half as well as she does, my life would be far more interesting. Sadly, I'm just a hack.
  • I bought that single and listened to it over and over again, of her and he whose name strike that face let it be wiped from mammary
  • You mean, He-Whose-Name_Must-Be-Aubade?
  • I would like to email PF another beer. And a pair of Johnny Cougar's underpants.
  • Me'shell Ndegocello My goodness, is she still around? That was my thought about Edie Brickell. What has she been doing since she and certain postmodern Bohemians were shooting rubber bands at the stars? That being said, if Robin Williams will improvise lyrics to any of Phillip Glass' pieces, I am so there. Or more properly, I am so there. There. There. There. I am so there. There. There. There. I am so so so so so so so so so so so so there there there there there there there there there there so so so so so so so so so there there there there there there I am I am I am I am I am there there there there there there so there so there so there I I I I I I I I so so so so so so so I so there. Am there.
  • My Philip Glass knock-nock joke: Knock-knock. Who's there? Phillip Glass. Knock-knock. Who's there? Phillip Glass. Knock-knock. Who's there? Phillip Glass. Knock-knock. (ad infinitum, ad nauseum)
  • Or rather, my "Phillip Glass knock-knock joke." Ack.
  • Ah, I love that knock knock joke. knock knock knock knock knock knock joke. But too few people seem to get it. (Which, depending on how you feel about Phillip Glass, may be a good thing).
  • *still puzzled about what Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal will be performing*
  • *still puzzled about what Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal will be performing* I'm hoping it will be a reader's theater version of Secretary.
  • TenaciousP, ew. They're siblings.
  • But extremely hot siblings.
  • As far as minimalism is concerned, I'm more of a Steve Reich fan. Find the recording of his choral/orchestral work The Desert Music performed by the Eastman School ensemble "Alarm Will Sound." It is a sensation. John Adams (the composer, not the prez) is pretty rad as well. Recommended works: the rock opera I Was Looking At The Ceiling And Then I Saw The Sky, and the short orchestral work Short Ride in a Fast Machine. Although he's not technically a minimalist in the sense that Glass/Reich/Reily et. al, Estonian composer Arvo Part is insanely good. (If you saw F 9/11, the haunting string piece consisting of descending scales played during the September 11th section is his work Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten). Recommended CD: <>iDe Profundis, a collection of his choral works conducted by Paul Hillier.
  • TenaciousP, ew. They're siblings. Hence "reader's theater." I mean, sheesh, I'm not a perv or anything. okay, maybe a little...
  • That was my thought about Edie Brickell. What has she been doing since she and certain postmodern Bohemians were shooting rubber bands at the stars? Musically, I have little idea. But she did marry Paul Simon and have children and go solo.
  • Cool. Thanks PY.
  • My Philip Glass knock-nock joke Double joke.
  • I wish i could find the showtimes
  • Here and here.
