The Fredrick Douglass Papers Online
Brand new. Via the NYTimes.
  • The commentary preceding the text of one of his speeches, on the people who attended his speech, what they wore, the music, reactions, etc. is interesting. The Douglass speech I remember most (and had no luck finding in that online archive) is an antebellum one he gave when invited to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence. "This Fourth July is yours, not mine."
  • Ooh, thanks! Good site.
  • Wow!
  • Young Douglas and snowy-haired Douglas are quite dapper. Mid-life Douglas reminds me vaguely of Don King.
