Curious George: photoshop color problem (.jpg)

So, Photoshop has started showing color all weirdly. The blacks are not true blacks, they all have a slightly red tinge when viewed in Photoshop. BUT they save just fine, and look just fine when viewed in any other program, including when using the 'save for web' function (see linked image for comparison). Any of you Photoshop monkeys have an idea what's up? Oh, it's Photoshop 7.0.1, Windows XP Pro, if that matters...

  • AND this is not the Photoshop Color issue posted on Ask.Metafilter today. This seems like it has no effect on the color IN the file, only on how the color LOOKS in photoshop.
  • didja run the Adobe color adjusty thingie?
  • Check which color profile you're running in.
  • Could quickmask be on? Gamut warning thingie? If you don't use any of the process simulation stuff set it all to defaults. EVERYTHING TO DEFAULTS! Damn. This is interesting. Gonna think about it.
  • Ding ding ding! We have an aggregate winner! while looking for the color adjuster thingie®, I checked to see which color setting I was on, (it was web graphics defaults), I changed it to color management off and, pow!, all became well. I know you won't believe me but I never touched that setting, or even knew it existed, until now. Really. Unless maybe I fell asleep with my face mashing the keyboard and struck the magical "screw things up" chord. Thank you monkeys! I owe you several!
  • Theeeeeerrrrre he/she iiiiiiiiisssss . . . Curious Geeooooooorrrrrrge No Moooooooooooorrrrre . . .
  • *Ahem* As Nostrildamus first pointed out, it's not color adjuster thingie® It's Adobe color adjusty thingie®
  • no wondey I couldn't find it!
  • "I know you won't believe me but I never touched that setting, or even knew it existed, until now." This is how I knew it was something to do with that pesky Adobe color adjusty thingie®©™ because the evil space leprechauns from planet ninja did the same thing to my computie, too. Oh, and I mashed the keyboard with my face a few times when I was drunk, but that has nothing to do with it.
