Band In A Bubble What do you get when you take three musicians, two producers, and a VJ and seal them in a 60-square-metre perpex dome in the middle of Melbourne's Federation Square for three weeks to record their fifth album? Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Regurgitator, the Band In A Bubble.(warning: heavy flash)

I know the Bubble site is a bit obnoxiously flash-happy; perhaps the most interesting content is the windows media stream. [Note: for the five people in Australia with Foxtel digital cable, you can also watch on channel 802.] Since the band was dropped by their label Warner Music in 2001, they have had to sell out quite spectacularly to get the project off the ground — a fact they readily admit. On the Regurgitator site (also heavy on the flash) you can find Quan's weblog, which contains an interesting short discussion of the relative merits of record label servitude vs. selling out to corporate sponsorship. As Quan asks, "Can art/music flourish in the space between advertising and the funding it provides?"

  • I found an mp3 of this band here, in case anyone is interested.
  • ah! i was wondering when this was starting. i will stroll into the city later this afternoon and check it out. report to follow.
  • This is going straight in at number 6 on my list of "Things in Perspex that are More Interesting than David Blaine". The list is sizeable.
  • "Can art/music flourish in the space between advertising and the funding it provides?" No.
