London gets an alternative newspaper - The Line, shamelessly stolen from flashboy's blog, who claims to write for it, or something - maybe he covers the Banana beat.
  • Of course, this bit could have been left out - get rid of St. Paul's? Over my dead Wren-worshiping body! Heathens!
  • He writes for it all right ... here he is shilling Donnie Darko again.
  • I'm sure it's very cool and all, but the front page is a big mess in Safari.
  • I think I might be in it somewhere, too. Maybe. Was I ever quoted in the mp3 blog article? Did it ever happen? Where am I? This isn't my coat!
  • Nifty. Hope you keep it up. I liked the Alternate History London bit and the blog it linked to as well.
  • Heh.
  • Oooh. Christ on a bike. Thanks, jb! (For both this and the MeFi thread.) It's still at the pilot stage, we haven't launched properly yet - what's on the website is the pilot that we printed a week ago. All feedback is very, very welcome, particularly from any monkeys who live in a city that has an alternative weekly (Village Voice, Boston Phoenix, etc.) What do they do well, what do they do badly, why do people read them, what else should they do, and so on... just to turn this into a highly self-interested Curious, George. [We're quite proud of having grabbed newspaper at gmail dot com, if you want to get in touch...] Hopefully we'll add to the website content over the next few weeks, even though we probably won't be doing another pilot edition for a month or so. The slightly rough-and-ready site design was done at the drop of a hat by the inestimably great Chris of qwghlm.co.uk. I should also point out that we're thinking of having MoFi's very own Mr. F. Clovestofu as a regular music columnist. Unfortunately, the mp3 blog article didn't make it in, despite some nice contributions from Blaise and Forky. Feel a bit awkward so brazenly plugging my own product. Oh, and I'm the Deputy Editor, by the way. A position I hope to relinquish as soon as possible, so I've got time to actually, you know, write stuff. jb, if I emailed you a little paragraph or two, would you mind posting it to MeFi to answer some of their questions?
  • I think it will be fun to see how this develops, flashboy. Looking forward to more.
  • Sincere apologies from Line-web-editor-monkey Towers for the apparent mucked-up-ness in Safari, this will be sorted in the very near future (once someone gives me a Mac to play with, *cough cough*), it will definitely be sorted out before we launch our first regular issue. Lovely to see the paper has made MoFi, it's provoked a long-time lurker out of the shadows to post for the first time. :-)
  • We are not getting you an iMac just so that you can fix the site in Safari. We're spending that money on hiring some naive, penniless student to fetch us coffee and beer and pies, then do all our work for us.
  • Make one of the qualifications for the naive penniless student position be owning an iMac. Problem solved.
  • If you pay my airfare and subsidise my family's accommodation, I'll be your pie girl. And I have an iBook. And, coincidentally, an iPod.
  • In case you've forgotten flashboy, I am a naive penniless student! (well, penniless, at least...)
  • I'm pennisless tudent.
  • If anyone can tell me what the hell I mean by that, I'd really be glad for an explanation.
  • it's a nice little metaphor for your manhood, linked with the idea of writing: pen-is and penis, see, and ... ok no. You were just randomly pecking at the keyboard, weren't you? G'wan, admit it.
  • Avid readers of The Line will have been amused by this little gem from George Bush's speech:
"In Afghanistan, terrorists have done everything they can to intimidate people, yet more than 10 million citizens have registered to vote in the October presidential election, a resounding endorsement of democracy."
...because as we all know, there's only 8.5 million Afghanis actually eligible to vote. And terrorist attacks have kept registration in some areas down to 15%, while in others, it's running at a sprightly, if corrupt, 200% That's a resounding endorsement of something, I'm sure. Not quite clear what though...
