MetaFilter's down again.

I'm just sayin'.

  • And this is worthy of a post because?
  • Your link is broken. Thus I conclude that you are an incompetent asswipe, and must be hunted down and sat on by people who are very fat, yet who also have amazing running speed (or a speedy vehicle of some kind).
  • Perhaps they could be shot from some kind of catapult, and land on you.
  • OH NO!
  • Or, they could work in tandem with less weighty and much faster colleagues, who would hold you down until the thundering sitters-on eventually arrive.
  • Obviously the details should be worked out quickly - perhaps by forming a committee dedicated to discussing the issue and forming intelligent conclusions based on all the evidence.
  • Maybe these guys can help?
  • This is exactly the sort of thing that makes a band replace its drummer.
  • Obviously the fat sitting people would use a segway, or some other form of very modern technologically advanced transport making it easier for them to catch incompetent asswipes. And of course, when you talk about Metafilter, the subject of incompetent asswipes naturally enters the conversation. As quidnunc no doubt will attest. I recall the two fat twin guys who used to appear in the Guinness book of records all the time on tiny motor scooters. One of them was me. The other was quidnunc.
  • MetaFilter goes down more often than a hooker at the RNC.
  • ...and it's back up. Can we delete this pointless thread now?
  • where's my "more inside"? i feel cheated
  • Yeah, the link actually works, which, given your intent of posting a broken link, means that the link is in a certain sense broken, even though it works. Huh?
  • must be time for Kitten Wrasslin'.
  • I have to admit, I don't immediately see the relevance of this to our discussion of Mel Gibson.
  • shinything! kitten wrasslin'! now that there's a good post.
  • You do realise, everybody, that this is not just a double post, don't you?
  • Ya know, pete_best, next time mefi goes down you can just call 911 and they'll take care of you right away.
  • I like beer!
  • Just sayin'.
  • This is what happens when you Mefites let Ethereal Blingbling yammer on and on like that. All those filibusters can take a hefty toll on howie's server. Once you guys get EB all riled up, it isn't long until the buffers start to overflow, stacks are smashed, CPUs go supernova, and all the giant WARNING! DANGER! MALFUNCTION! lights and sirens at the Top Secret International Metafilter Headquarters go berzerk.
  • Here we are now, entertain us.
  • *wheels around in tall-backed leather chair, petting the cat and smoking a cigarette through one of those black holder thingys* APOLOGIES . . for the consternation 00shawnj, and COMpany . . . For you see, I posted that thread about MetaFilter being down! Because it's always down! Do you realize how often that cursed server has thwarted my plans to READ . . and yes - perhaps even TO POST?! *thunderclap* Yeeesss . . excellent work Skrik in finding the pattern . . but it won't save you from going MAD at clicking the MetaFilter link only to see the "Loading" symbol turn into the favicon for MeFi - on the page you were just reading!! MuwhAHahAhahhaahaaaa!! *more thunder*
  • hey look wedge, i don't encourage him. all i said was i wouldn't be the one to ask him to leave. not my fault if he makes the Überfilter go kaplooey. that dude is kind of weird though. gotta admit it. and he talks more than i do, which is impressive in itself...
  • He went to my alma mater! (We all talk a lot.)
  • The guy who houses the Metafilter server is buying some sort of upgrage. Hopefully this will correct some of the problems.
  • Upgrage? is this perhaps the opposite of outgrabe? Like what mome raths do?
  • PC Acme offers an upgrage product
  • pete_best's Nehru jacket is particularly stylish and evil-looking, as is his pinky ring.
  • I'm thinking upgrade rage.
  • Haven't you guys ever heard of an "upgrage" before? Sheesh, what a bunch of hermits! Except for Wurwilf, of course, who had no trouble defining the word. ;o)
  • Remember back in the old days when a MeFi thread would appear and we'd automatically talk about how much better MoFi is? See, you can tell we've grown up since then. MoFi is better, anyway. It's more laid back, more variety, and not as much bickering. I like it here just fine. Dammit.
  • My pants are down again.
  • Yeah, that EB guy is annoying, isn't he?
  • He gets plenty of shit from the Metafilter people. But to his credit he puts his back against the wall and fights tooth and nail, even when its obvious that he's completely wrong. It's probably not proper to badmouth the guy in another forum, but yeah, he's the most irritating person there. And the reaction from the other posters totally shows it.
  • I wish everyone would stop pissing on EB - My posts are way longer than his!
  • Actually, I'm serious - with metafilter full of people like ParisParamus and FoldandMutilate, how can anyone be annoyed at EtherealBligh (who is quite interesting)?
  • Walked right into it, Kerensky...
  • D'oh! Heh.
  • You shouldn't be so hard on yourself, kmellis... (And why don't you post here more often? Surely we aren't that bad?)
  • Umm. Oops. I was kidding? If you find yourself in New Brunswick EB/kmellis, I'll buy you a beer. It's just the internet, after all.
  • Yeah, that was perhaps not too nice of me. I figured everyone knew I was over here occasionally, as well. No biggy. :)
  • I think part of my problem would be alleviated if I learned to spread myself around. I tend to pick a single web/net community and participate within it not quite exclusively, but close. Since April 2, there's lots of places that I was regularly seen on the net that I'm not around as much. That's a bad thing. MoFi is great. I was just looking over the front page a few days ago thinking that it's more what MeFi is supposed to be than what MeFi is (at least lately). Some great links here. And people are nicer.
  • Pfft, I never even noticed that you went by a different name here. I'm so observant. (I'm also moving this thread.)
  • Another part of your problem would be alleviated by reading Strunk & White. I'm saying this nicely, 'cause we're so nice over here.
  • JRun rules!
  • Strunk & White, Strunk & White... Hmm, never heard of it.
  • kmellis, you might want to change your Mefi/MoFi profile. The Complex Now has been sucked into the Void Timeless.
  • So we are agreed! This pete_best individual must be ritually slaughtered for human consumption.
  • Perhaps his carcass should be roasted, dressed with olive oil, rosemary and lemon rind; sea salt and freshly ground black pepper could even be rubbed into his skin beforehand.
  • I wonder what soup should be served as a starter? I'm particularly fond of French Onion.
  • Yet in order to make such a soup, must the onions in question be sourced from France? Would it be sufficint if they - for example - spoke French, or wore a stripey shirt and beret?
  • In other news the sky is blue.
  • It's my understanding that Metafilter went down because Matt turned on unlimited new user signups for the briefest of moments and the resulting influx crashed the server irrevocably.
  • Could the onions perhaps be "frenched", with little frilled hats placed on their denuded shoots?
  • perhaps even TO POST! Rub it in loser.... :)
  • Would it be sufficint if they - for example - spoke French, or wore a stripey shirt and beret? They would also need a garland of little people strung around their, er, pointing upwards segment.
  • haha! via quonsar
  • Up with JRun! get it? "Up"? . . . oh intercourse the penguin!
  • Holy hell Wedge, that cracked me up.
  • Great one, (Generic via Wedge), somehow I managed to miss that. 11 out of 10.
  • Ha! Hilarious!
  • This post was deleted for the following reason: ha ha very funny motherfucker That alone was worth it.
  • And again.
  • aaaaand again. *whistles circus music* hey anyone got any other websites to look at? Whats the URL for that see enn-enn one? Is that like Irish or something?
  • yyyyyyyyup.
  • the connection was refused for www.metafilter.com. Curse you JRun!!
  • Maybe Matt's baby has been born and in celebration he's taking it down forever. . .
  • *slowly squints at mygothlaundry, writes name down*
  • Pfft, I plan on having my wireless connection moved to the hospital when I go. No commitment.
  • That's cos you're our Monkeybashi, Monkeybashi. Mathowie's just plain vanilla #1 :) I can say this with impunity because I have no Mefi account. So nyah.
  • I can imagine the comments now: Oh, hey, this baby thing isn't so bad. posted by tracicle at 03:22AM UTC on June 24, 2005 OH GOD KILL ME NOW posted by tracicle at 07:14AM UTC on June 24, 2005 Mmmm, drugs. posted by tracicle at 07:15AM UTC on June 24, 2005 His baby is pretty cute. Although I think Melinika's is cuter.
  • 'nika's baby is teh awesoem. if it were a kittin it would be lully and fluffey. so i lurk on b3ta. whatcha gon' do 'bout it, bwoy? i mean it but.
  • crap that f*'n page is still down! What? Baby fault? What the f* is that?? A 101 error? *click!* . . . . dammit! *click* . . . . dammit!
  • Metafilter is a pile of shit.
  • I still love how fast MoFi is - i sometimes use it to check if it's my connection that's slow or the server I'm trying to reach.
  • Monkeyfilter: OH GOD KILL ME NOW Monkeyfilter: Mmmm, drugs. Monkeyfilter: *click*....dammit!
  • hat trick!
  • I can imagine the comments now: And other comments by (not-so-)helpful Monkeys: "Push! Push!" "Can you see the head yet, #2?" "You let them put a needle in your spine to ease the pain?"
  • Whubbut thubuh fubuck? It's down again!?! This is beginning to get on my nerves. What, do they expect me to work or something here?
  • heheh - i was just talking to myself in ubby dubby the other day MGL. Fubunnubby Stubbuff.
  • Clearly this whole MetaFilter thing was a carefully engineered plot, constructed by Matt Haughey, in which he cleverly built the illusion of an online community, charged admission when it got popular, used said admission fee to pay for his baby bills, and immediately absconded with the remainder the second kid met world. Damn. I suspected as much all along. Only now, at the end, do I realize the awful truth, far too late.
  • Oh, you know what this means. Mefi dies, Kid is born? Same day? *insert ominous chord* Soon the kid'll be arguing with anyone who comes in range and drooling all over Macs. Mark my words.
  • maybe the kid is the Anti-MeFi
  • make that the Anti-Pony
  • y'know i don't even *click* . . . dang . . like MeFi as much as I used to. It seems like the mall just got *click* . . . crap! . . . just got bigger and bigger. Although I do still *click* . . . sonofa. . check in on it once in a *click* . . goddamnit!. . once in awhile. Bah!
  • Fuck Metafilter.
  • I get it, Chy. Some people do still like to read it, though. ...damn, my joke didn't work, though. I give up.
  • Who cares?
  • I got ya Wurwilf! You think *they* planned to channel MeFi or . . . *it* did? (Dun - dun - Dahhhhhhhhhh!!)
  • Channel MeFi? peteyb, have you heard the same rumors I have about Matt's TV deal? (Most of the highest ranked posters have signed on to get a webcam and a recumbent bike... quonsar's holding out until he finds out if Paris Hilton wants him for "Simple Life 4")
  • It's back, so now you all have to go comment in my poor, neglected post. Now!
  • I'm sayin' MeFi has ascended to the next level. My religion-based humor needs work. (If people are bad, are they reborn as websites?)
  • Hell, I started spewing theories and opinions to my coworkers. They were all like "That site of yours is down, huh?" posted by jonmc at 6:09 PM PST on May 4 [!] Hehehe
  • I'm still pondering the Segway idea first developed upthread. I'm concerned that they won't be fast enough, that perhaps a large rubber band-based technology should be employed somehow. Or ornithopters. Or Jesus power. Or, wait, maybe emus.
  • you emu people need to get over it. And no, I don't want an emu-dog. It's about the nutrias.
  • Don't be coy about your Coypu.
  • My connection was refused. *cries*
  • I had this really important thing to say back to this guy mouthing off about Canadians.
  • what was it?
  • "fuck off"
  • eh?
  • Probably more like "fuck off, eh."
  • heh.
  • How impolite.
  • I say Good Day to you sir!
  • Hey, blame jb! Goddam Canadians. It isn't even a real country anyway.
  • you're just mad because you misconstrued what the Mounties are for.
  • petebest, you just made me spew my beer all over the screen!
  • MonkeyFilter: "You let them put a needle in your spine to ease the pain?"
  • MonkeyFilter: "fuck off, eh."
  • I'm injecting cleaning fluid into my veins in order to detect neutrinos.
  • 500 The ClientScope service is not available. Well, hell, that's new. At least it didn't say JRun.
  • Huh, haven't heard of ClientScope. A google search shows it's still JRun-related, though.
  • I think mathowie said that he's in the middle of doing some section-by-section overhauling of the site. Don't know if that means changing the codebase or moving to other servers or what.
  • It's a plot! They . . They want you to believe the site is down but - hey! Getcher mitts offa me! Hey! The site! . . .wait, stop pulling! The site isn't down, it's tracking y- ow! Stop! . . . With the kicking, and the biting, M'Hey! You Mmmfgh! MMggrh! Fphmmgrgrmmghph!
  • Error Occurred While Processing Request The ValueList() function has an invalid parameter: getLinks.link_id. Parameter 1 of function ValueList which is now (getLinks.link_id) must be pointing to a valid query name.
  • Yes, metafilter is indeed full of queeries.
  • That JRun guy is a jerk.
  • Hey, guess what? Metafilter's down again! This time the document contains no data, which I guess isn't exactly a surprise.
  • Can I get my five bucks back?
  • FUCK YOU MEFI ha ha ha
  • Metafilter is a java based website running on Windows isn't it? That would certainly explain why it goes down so often.
  • so sad. so true.
  • Wow "document contains no data". Not even a favicon.ico this time. Dirt nap!
  • ♫ Oh JRun You're not really fun You smell like my bum And you suuuuuuucck ♫
  • I so don't care.
  • Should we care that you don't care? 'Cause I don't care that you don't care. So there.
  • Oh, right. This is, like, me caring. Shyuah!
  • The fact that you don't care about my not caring does not raise my level of caring one iota. I'm through with you.
  • No matter how little you care, I care one less.
  • I'm THROUGH with you!
  • I find your lack of care disturbing. *uses The Farce to strangle thread*
  • No, I was through with you first. Just because you can't explain it doesn't mean it's not trooooooooooooooo.
  • I'm through with infinity plus one! Nyahh!
  • I'm watching the roads, MCT. I'M WATCHING THE ROADS.
  • Roads? Where this thread's going . . . we don't need roads . . .
  • *GramMa enters bearing tray of warm oatmeal cookies and a pitcher of cold milk. Boys! Boys! That's enough fighting. Let's all sit down and have a nice cookie made with heaps o' Idon'tcare and STFU. *GramMa's tired of all this bickering and wants a nap.
  • *mgrfh* fThangks GramMa!
  • Feh.
  • Matt must be trying to enjoy his weekend. Or the baby pulled the plug.
  • Looks like it just came back up. At last I can read the latest comment by klangklangston! It's like being rich, but the cost is so skinny11!
  • This document contains no data.
  • Not the most auspicious beginning to Matt's stay-at-home adminning. A poem!
  • I must bee stows a rose or two on tracicle for her poem's new. Amazing. Ye've never done this before. Now I KNOW ye missed me!
  • 'Twas but an accident. :)
  • Let it sneak up on you again.
  • I blame mathowie.
  • I blame everyone.
  • I blame you.
  • I blame the blamers.
  • Death to extremists!!!!
  • Off with his/her/its/their heads!
  • Maybe we should think about this . . .
  • Can't we all just get along?
  • FUCK YOU, INTERNET.
  • What the fuck is the Internet?
  • A new-fangled fool-catcher?
  • They needs tube lube
  • *inserts dollar, watches screen for futher instructions*
  • I blame monju_bosatsu (possibly NSFW.)
  • possibly? Oy gevalt!
  • Dude, seriously - IIS? Puh-leeze.
  • I sooooo saved 5 bucks.
  • I hope mine comes with happy ending.
  • Happy Ending? And here I was, asking for 'full release'.
  • Shark: The Jump.
  • Now now, I think it's a great thing over there. I mean, imagine if . . umm . . like, Owen Wilson or . . Floyd Landis joined MonkeyFilter. Or something.
  • down again. These HFCS cola-based servers aren't worth all that much.
  • They should transition to Aspartame + Caramel + Caffeine cola based products (self link).
  • Yum!
  • MMm, carbonated cappuccino. Right up there with the weird espresso-like taste of coca cola blak.
  • I wish Pepsi Max Cappuccino were more widely available. I've only seen them in the Carrefour in Porte d'Auteuil and the odd Monoprix.
  • Mors ad Intemperans!
  • The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. JRun Sux! Booooo!
  • who is in charge this week of making sure Pete stays on his medications?
  • I also noticed that MoFi has had a lot of 500 errors lately; I'm going to try and look at that this weekend. Maybe the tubes are clogged again.
  • Do we have a signal too?
  • It would have to have an angry monkey on it.
  • How about this? or this?
  • [a few comments removed, please stick to fart jokes]
  • They are coming.
