Ted's Caver Page - Warning: Sanity Loss May Occur
  • via Mefi
  • Here is a straight copy of the page with an 'update' by Ted's 'sister'. And, of course, the original short story it is based on is here (in .PDF format), by writer Thomas Lera. Discussed on snopes forums here and here Sorry to spoil it.
  • Spoil? I thought it was very obviously fiction.
  • So did I, but after reading the GTA forum thread and the lack of critical thinking employed there, I became dismayed. I wasn't aiming my sorry to spoil it comment at you, but at any monkeys who might read and get sucked in.
  • Hmmm. Actually I've been a bit skeptical today. Perhaps I should post a ghostie link for others to have a go at. I found a neat one recently, but didn't bookmark it. I wonder if I can refind it?
  • I live for that kind of thing, so if you come across it, please share.
  • Found it. Comin' right up. & I live for that stuff too. :)
  • We should have one day a month where we decide to believe everything we read here, no matter how farfetched, just open up the credulous part of our minds to whatever FPP appears on MoFi, then see who we are at the end of the day.
  • Fantastic story!! I couldn't read it fast enough. Thanks for the link, shawnj.
  • "We should have one day a month where we decide to believe everything..." I agree! Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.
  • Sometimes I've believed in six impossible breakfasts. Yes, and eaten them, too. I take 'em with relish. And nary a grain of salt.
  • I first posted this to Metafilter and there's a bunch more comments (and a spooky link or two) in there. I reckon this works much, much better on the web than it did in its original form. The amateurish prose style and the cheesy ending cripple the short story, but the same writing with a cliff-hanger is really compelling on the web. Whoever wrote the 'update' should be ashamed.
