The Biggest Suckers of 2003

Bruce Almighty??? grrr.. Anger Mangement??? Huh. Hopefully, 2004 will suck less.

  • Interesting to see how reloaded killed the matrix trilogy.
  • Good movies you mighta missed : Die Mommie, Die! Bubba Ho-Tep (Don't forget to give him a call) The Cooler The Barbarian Invasions It helps if you have an independent movie house near you. Who else is going to show the uncut version of the violent Ichi the Killer (and even this trailer is violent, too. NSFW kinda violent, ok?) and then show a six minute animated short from Disney and Dali before the Triplets of Bellville? No word on if they're going to show Jojo in the Stars which has really captured my imagination through its tiny, wondrous teaser trailer.
  • Heh...it's good to see that crap-ola like "Charlie's Angels 2" got beat by a fish (Nemo), an elf (Elf), and a horse (Seabiscuit). And "Kangaroo Jack" did better than "Lara Croft 2". Heh.
  • Ichi the Killer, what a f-ed up film. My friend took me to see it without telling me anything about it. Thought it was going to be your typical yakuza film, but boy WAS I WRONG!!! Same friend bought me the 2 DVD special edition for xmas, cause for some reason I actually liked it. (It also has maybe the greatest opening title sequence ever) Miike makes some very interesting films, especially if you want to find out how strong your stomach is. Audition might be a good one to start on.
  • Gigli grossed more than American Splendor??? There is no fucking justice in this world. ::kills self::
  • Bone, it happens. But there are many reasons for it. The most obvious is the distribution. American Splendor opened on 6 screens. At it's widest point it was on 272 screens. Whereas Gigli opened on (and I might add NEVER expanded beyond) 2215 screens. So think of it this way - American Splendor cost $3mil to make and made money but Gigli cost upward of $75mil and took a big stinkin' bath. Trust me, the people behind American Splendor are THRILLED with that box office take. And they'll likely continue to make money with the awards season coming up quickly.
  • Thank you, IgnorantSlut... those are excellent points. I feel so much better now. ::pulls kozuka (the knife used in the seppuku ritual) out of stomach, goes looking for a Band-Aid::
  • Bleh. Will there ever be another film as good as Sharkey's Machine?
  • Fes, you mean anything starring this guy doesn't meet your needs?
  • For those interested in comparisons, check out 2004, and before long, 2005.
