Red Elvises - Kick Ass Rock'n'Roll from Siberia. If only to hear "Everybody, shake your body" sung to the tune of the Volga Boatman's song. Mp3's here.

It's funny - I found this band searching for something completely different, but this morning my friend and I were trying to find where we could buy CDs by the Leningrad Cowboys (specifically the concert CD Total Balalaika, because we are also fans of the Red army Choir). But this is filling my eastern kitsch rock cravings in the meantime. I especially recommend "Closet Disco Dancer" (particularly if you are one).

  • I love these guys... first heard of them via the soundtrack for the film Six-String Samurai. I saw them in Fort Lauderdale a couple years ago. There weren't many folks in the crowd, and I wound up drinking a beer at the bar not more than five feet from the bassist. Good times.
  • My favorite is "The Strip Joint is Closed". Good stuff.
  • Six String Samurai!
  • "If I were you, I'd run!" "If you were me, you'd be good looking." I love Six-String Samurai. And I adore the Red Elvises.
  • Green Elvis
  • all jokes aside, i recently discovered these guys too. kick ass is very accurate.
  • I discovered the Red Elvises from Six-String Samurai, too. The only thing more awesome than their songs are their shoes.
  • I first saw them in Six-String Samurai as well, then they started playing in a little bar in the subway station at 50th street and Broadway in Manhattan called, of all things, Siberia. They're pretty damn cool live.
  • Siberia was one of my fav. places in Manhattan; the new place isn't as cool, but certainly just as dank. It's where I first saw the Pontani Sisters. ah, memories.
  • I love you all, goddamnit.
  • I found these guys years ago playing on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica! *love* them!
