Curious George: Has anybody here used a flowbee? or perhaps a Robocut? I'd like to hear about your experiences and (mis)adventures with such things.
  • Nope. But I betcha I know who has.
  • Scissors also work well.
  • Some hard-earned advice: Always have someone dexterous or experienced do your hair. I know what I'm talking about. Ah, those times I let someone do it just because didn't want to hurt her feelings, and ended up looking like this poor fellow..
  • Or this guy.
  • there is much to be said for going to a professional. when my sister was 3 my dad cut her hair & to this day, 30 years later, we still laugh about it & make fun of how she looked...
  • One note that might be of interest - you'd think products like these would be perfect for very short hair cuts, like flat tops and crew cuts, but that's actually not the case. A very good friend of mine had a crew cut for years and she always had a hard time finding decent barbers. The difference between a nice sharp looking crew and a head like a cardboard box is very subtle, requiring skillful shaping of the corners - much subtler than I could ever imagine getting with products like these, especially trying to do it yourself.
  • "Turn it off man! Turn it off! It's sucking my will to live!"
  • I notice the Robocut has "range extenders" that add an additional 4". I get emails all the time that are better than this...
  • On a lower-tech note, a friend of mine cut his own hair all the way through grad school with a gadget that looked like a comb but had a razor inside. It met his admittedly low standards for a decent haircut, but he did say it hurt like hell.
  • Isn't this why Marines are called jarheads?
  • My wife has cut my hair for the lase twenty years or so. Now that I'm about 3/4 bald, it takes much less time. I cut her hair once. Once. She can laugh about it now, but it took a while.
