Have seven adopted children that you are being paid to keep, but you don't want?
Ship them off to Africa where you don't have to worry about Child Protective Services dropping in to check on the condition of the home.

That story reads like a depressing Spanish novel. It's inconceivable to me how you could neglect kids in such a way. These were adopted kids. It's so obvious that it was for the money. Tragic indeed.

This is outrageous.

The children are in foster homes until it's determined whether their adoptive mother, Mercury Liggins, 47, will regain custody. No charges have been filed against Liggins...
-
That left me speechless too, Plegmund. No charges? It's actually possible that this woman might get the children back? Wtf.
-
... On the topic of charges against her, Nwankwo, the guy she left them with, is no doubt responsible for a part of this mess as well. They're probably still untangling what exactly happened and who's responsible for it. Bizarre all around.

"They were very pale and had lost weight" Or alternatively, the orphanage had been careful to keep them out of the sun and had provided an effective diet aimed at preventing the obesity which sadly affects so many American youths.
