General statement.
I read a comment on some post, which I can't find now, which complained that this venue is getting too monkey oriented. I have to agree. There have been a lot of really interesting links, but, in the last few days, there was too much monkey stuff. If it takes over, we'll lose all the people like me who are not that entranced by simians. There's so much more out there folks. And yes, I've tried, but my attempt at a Meta-type post with lots of links didn't work, though it merited it.

path - I feel your pain, but I differ slightly. You see, I have a particular affection for fez monkeys. Aside from that, I skip the monkey posts. I tried some of the early ones but thought them lame and decided not to visit them in the future. I too hope they eventually become old hat and diminish in frequency. Until then you can do as I do and simply try to ignore them.
-
..too much monkey stuff.. Looking for identity? After all, those meta types aren't metaphysical or metamorphic or metamucil. But I agree with you....too much monkey business and not enough....errr...what what it we're talking about??
-
path-- best way to clear out the old memes is to start posting lots of NEW memes... Get Active! Your first post was good--- post more and the rest of the lurkers will beat the door to you, path!

In the mean time, keep gathering fruit.

Hey! It's MonkeyFilter! D'oh! Well, I thought it was a nice signature for this place to post at least one monkey related link a week. Just like MeFi has something about Dubya every week. But, lately, it was getting really out of hand with several continuous minor posts that we could have lived without. Not that they weren't good, but they were posted more because of the meme-fad than any more valuable reason. Yet, if we monkeys want to continue posting about monkeystuff you can't do nothing about it. Let the fad die. Eventually everyone will tire out of the meme and the frequency of monkey related posts will decrease. And don't dare to later say you didn't enjoyed it while it lasted.

Dizzy - thanks for the laugh.

[chatters in outrage, throws dung]

Zemat - you dared me not to dare, and I usually take dares, but this got so recursive that I can't figure out whether I should complain or not. Good move! goetter - are 4 of your sets of skis really, realllly small? Ski-ing cats! Sounds like trouble to me. (For those of you who didn't understand, check out his profile.)
-
Damn, just when I was about to post this story on the Victorian ape woman.
-
Monkeys are so last week... This week, it's Mad Cows!
-
Wolof - ah, you should have posted it up front. Great link! Side show people, embalmbed bodies touring Europe, probable tragedy and betrayal - what more could one ask? And NO simians! The image of "a vast travelling show that incorporated musical entertainments, waxworks, a pig raffle and a "Hygienic and Anatomical Museum" in which white-coated employees lectured in front of tanks full of amputated syphilitic penises" will stay with me forever.

too much mankey?

Bye Bye Kittenfilter.
-
path: despite repeated readings of Cross Country Cat, my old boys show no interest in playing in the snow. They're pretty much anchored to the furniture. Furry barnacles of the living room. I think that we have the bandwidth to pick up any dropped traffic from KittenFilter. [wanders off to waste time at RateMyKitten.com instead of scrubbing Christmas dinner pots and pans]
-
Oh no! Goetter, I was thinking that was the flakiest site I have visited. But, then I realized that I have already rated 20 kittens in a row. The cuteness overrode my judgement... I must watch that handrolled cigar ad again.

monkey see, monkey do.

Russians have Christmas monkeys.

Funny thing is, I just authorised a new member whose bio simply says (and I paraphrase): "I came here looking for stuff on monkeys. Why isn't there anything on monkeys??"

PATH DOESN'T LIKE MONKEYS!! PATH DOESN'T LIKE MONKEYS!! -
Um, Koko, I'm sure path has relaxed in the past few, er, 24 months or so. I mean, if you examine all 10,000 some links, you'll find not so many about monkeys. I would guess that the percentage is greater within the first 500 threads, and so far, that isn't too bad.
-
Until then you can do as I do and simply try to ignore them. *SIGH* If only more monkeys would follow this advice in regards to posts and threads. And, for whatever it's worth, I vote for more monkey posts.
