IMDB's 100 lowest rated movies.
Most of these shouldn't come as a surprise: Gigli comes in at 14, Shanghai Surprise at 31. At 51 is Spice World, and at 99 is Freddy Got Fingered. But Glen or Glenda came in at 93, and that was a lot worse than Spice World. lol.
The worst of all time: 'Manos' the Hands of Fate (1966). Has anyone seen this? Can this be verified as indeed the worst movie in all movie history.
-
Manos, was indeed horrible. But it got a big boost in its bad rep from being on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
-
How much do you suppose someone paid to make sure that "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" wasn't included on that list? It is surely one of the worst movies that I have EVER seen. I love Star Wars, but George has truly driven the franchise into the ditch.
-
The highest rated movie on this list that I've seen is #19: The Giant Spider Invasion, which is not nearly as bad as Atomic War Bride, which isn't on the list at all!
-
Yes, I've seen it. No, it is not the worst movie ever made. This is.
-
No Mrs Doubtfire or Red Sonia? Bogus list.
-
'Manos' the Hands of Fate... "Needless to say the majority of the cast and crew never appeared in another movie after this and in fact four of them, John Reynolds (Torgo), Diane Mahree (Margaret), Joyce Molleur (Makeout Girl) and Sherry Proctor (one of the Master's wives) committed suicide shortly after the film was completed." Hmmm...I guess that means the entire cast of "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" should get their shoelaces confiscated immediately.
-
I think I've brought that up in the B-Movie curious george a while back, but if people seriously believe that any movie that has mixed reviews or even a couple of fans, like TPM or Mrs Doubtfire, then you really would be terrified by what's really out there. You have to ask yourself, "Would I rather watch this or The Phantom Menace? This, or Mrs. Doubtfire? This, or Mission to Mars?" The answer is, I hope, simple. That's not to say that Hollywood doesn't put out bad films, Gigli and Freddy Got Fingered are a couple of examples. It's just that even crap like From Justin to Kelly doesn't even scratch the surface of the real rancid underbelly of film.
-
eep. That should read: "but if people seriously believe that any movie that has mixed reviews or even a couple of fans, like TPM or Mrs Doubtfire, is the worst movie ever, ..."
-
Also, I say to thee; "Frankenhooker", and "Skinheads: The Second Coming of Hate". Awesomely bad movies.
-
Manos is one of the greatest of the bad movies. My personal vote for worst bad movie is The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies. Horrible, horrible, horrible!
-
I agree, most of those movies on there are just simply lame rather than bad. I mean, House of the Dead wasn't BAD, it was simply just unremarkable. Manos is only on there because of the MST3K connection. If one wants to see bad movies, check out B-Mania which is a super obscure channel specializing in B-Movies. I love cheap movies, but they show movies so bad and devoid of life that even I can't watch them.
-
shawnj is telling the truth. It's just silly to put mediocre Hollywood movies on a level with, say, this, which was made by splicing together parts of two completely different movies shot years apart with two different casts, for Pete's sake. (Although it's almost worth seeing for the scene in which Hitler's head, kept in a bell jar, hollers from the back seat of a car: "Mach schnell! Mach schnell!!") Check out the User Comment: Summary: It's a shame IMDB doesn't let us rate something as '0' Horrible acting. Horrible writing. Horrible props. Horrible storyline. Horrible effects. Horrible everything! This is it, the one and only truly most horrible film ever produced by the human race. I'd recommend burning it, but even that would be a waste of good oxygen. I notice the Recommendations section says: "If you like this title, we also recommend... Madmen of Mandoras (1964)" But if you click on that link, the image shows They Saved Hitler's Brain! *spooky organ music*
-
ok, they obviously forgot "The Pledge" with jack nicholson...THAT WAS A HIDEOUS MOVIE!
-
If we are talking about footage from two films sliced together, we have to talk about Zombie Vs. Ninja which features a typical 70's Hong Kong Kung Fu movie that was shot on film which is, as with most of these movies, discolored and weathered. To this movie (which involves like 3 dead guys coming back to life) some Americans bought the rights, filmed themselves -- on VHS -- in these Power Rangers syle outfits (complete with headbands that say "Ninja" on them) and inserted themeselves as a subplot in the film. So it switches between crappy quality 70's film stock and crappy quality VHS. To top it off, one of the "Ninjas" is named "Ninja Ira." And of course since "Ninjas" are Japanese, not Chinese, which makes it even better.
-
I just did A quick scan to see how many I've seen. I've seen 82 of those films. 82. I don't think I've seen that many of the top 100.
-
Yep, I was right. Only 60 for the top 100.
-
Any "worst movie ever" list that doesn't include Sweet Movie isn't worth my time.
-
I don't have much familiarity with the B movies (I try not to waste my time with bad movies, rather than seeking them out), but of the movies I've seen, Terms of Endearment is definitely the most awful.
-
I haven't seen a single one of these movies. But if they're any worse than some of the horrible ones I have seen (The Butcher's Wife; The Punisher [nineties version]; The Office Killer; Hallowe'en IV....) then this is a blessing.
-
Curses on friends who invite me over to watch a movie and then produce something like that. Next time that happens, I swear I'm getting out of actually watching it somehow.
-
Worst seen at the theatre - Sheena (1984).
-
Worst movie I've ever seen: Sexo Canibal. So bad it was good.
-
"Beach Blanket Bingo" and most of Abbott & Costello's ouevre are missing from that list, as are "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", "Game of Death" (the Bruce Lee film completed with a stand-in after his death), and "Dolemite", in which the boom mike, and occasionally the boom operator, are visible in nearly every scene.
-
::feels good about NOT having seen any of the movies on the list::
-
I don't have much familiarity with the B movies (I try not to waste my time with bad movies, rather than seeking them out) B movie does not always mean bad movie; I've seen plenty of B movies that were better than any A movie.
-
"The Pledge" is far far, from a horrible movie. It has an unexpected, and rather depressing ending, which I think adds to the film, rather than detracts from it. I would say it is somewhere between good and very good.
-
This is a good list because it does not come from a biased reviewer. It comes from people who have seen the movies. People see the movies that they expect to enjoy. I couldn't put Gigli on my list because I would never see it. My logic capabilities fail me when I see that there are four different Police Academy movies on the list. Four. Remember -- these are reviews from people who saw the movies. Who is still seeing the 6th or 7th Police Academy movies when they already rated the 4th or 5th as an awful movie? Or are there some that regard 6 as a classic, and 7 as a disappointment? Should I see these movies to try to figure all of this out?
-
True, these people have seen the movies, but most people aren't really experts on what's good and what's bad. I'd take a list like this with a grain of salt because it's based on votes by IMDb users; a lot of it's very new ("Catwoman" just came out), so people are just voting with kneejerk reactions to what they don't like. A list from a film reviewer or a film buff would would better reflect what's really bad.
-
Heh! the only movie on that entire list that I have ever seen is Plan 9 from Outer Space.
-
A couple of years ago, there was a big war between B movie fans and wrestling fans which caused 'Manos the Hand of Fate' and 'Santa With Muscles' to go back and forth in the #1 spot. Manos may have won that battle, but with 3 starring roles in the Bottom 100, I think it's safe to say that Hulk Hogan lost the war. And, bernockle, there's no requirement to have seen a movie in order to rate it on iMDB, as proven by the fact that movies will get reviews before they're even released and many reviews start with "I haven't seen this movie yet, but..."
-
So- anybody seen 'Catwoman'? (#42 and falling) Talk about stinkers..... A director's misplaced enthusiasm for the subject, or spectacularly bad acting can make any film better. ('Mommie Dearest' comes to mind) Seeing a cast and crew trying to entertain with an inadaquate budget and poor preparation is always more interesting than some giga-million summer blockbuster. 'Glen or Glenda' is a personal favorite- a Rorschach ink blot of a movie- which never fails to entertain.
-
most people aren't really experts on what's good and what's bad I may not be an expert, but I know what I like!
-
however, I have seen approximately 90 of the 250 top...yes, I just looked thru the whole list. super motivated today, oh yeah, gonna get a LOT done, I can feel it...
-
Yeah, I'm with Koko. The imdb bottom 100 is a collection of MST3K episodes and Hollywood bombs. I'd say only about 30 or so really deserve to be on there (like Manos, Troll 2, Vercing
-
"Troll 2" deserves special consideration ... it's not even about Trolls, it's about goblins; the name of the town is Nilbog. The kid pees on the dinner table to keep his family from eating the food that will turn them into goblins, while his dead grandfather inexplicably stops time. "Troll 2" should be #1!
-
And while I'm on the topic, how a worst movie list can be determined where Glen or Glenda? would be considered worse than Wood's real turd Orgy of the Dead is beyond logic.
-
Worst not-deliberately-bad movie I have ever seen: "Palmetto". Wow, I still reel in horror at the true crapulousity of that pile of garbage.
-
This movie is not on the list, apparently only because it doesn't quite have enough votes, but it well deserves to be. So incredibly horrible I'm convinced it was a tax dodge. It cured me forever from desperation renting of unfamiliar videos off the wall at FrogBluster, no matter how passable the box looks. Unfortunate, since I had actually come across quite a decent little unknown gem by that method not too long before.
-
Where the hell is Batpussy?
-
Oh, happy day, there's an active torrent of everyone's favorite, Gayniggers From Outer Space.
-
I agree with f8x that The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies is truly awful and ought to be on that list. I'm also surprised that there's no Rat Pfink a Boo Boo on there.
-
You will all bow before the abomination that is Moonshine Mountain.
-
I did see Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo in theatres. To this day, it is the only movie I have ever walked out on. I should admit that I had to have my parents' car back by nine that night. I have yet to catch the final act of the movie.
-
The worst mainstream movie i have ever seen is What Dreams May Come. I would have walked out, but I would have been stranded. Its really a toss up for the worst movie I have ever seen, but right now its between R.O.T.O.R and Rollerblade.
-
*thoroughly enjoys self reading thread* *no, not that way* *get your freaking mind out of the gutter*
-
Thank you jccalhoun for mentioning Zombie vs Ninja. When I first read through the list I was screaming WHY ISNT ZOMBIE VS NINJA ON HERE! As a fellow sufferer of that film's awfulness I feel like we have a special bond. Let's start a support group. Other movies that made me physically ill include: Meet the Feebles and Jack Frost 2:Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman Jack Frost in particular put me in so much pain I felt like I was going to vomit.
-
oh, and Frogs. Goddamn stupid pointless Frogs.
-
I'll join the Zombie vs. Ninja support group! Although I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Ninja Ira is my hero.
-
Gayniggers From Outer Space isn't really that bad a movie. It just sounds like it's going to be bad from the title. Yes, the movie was laughable but it had a plot, characters and wasn't dreadfully long. It's a great laugh, but nowhere near the worst movie ever. At least it gets "so weird it's funny" in my book.
-
Glen Or Glenda? has a low budget and an insane point of view but actually I think it's a very interesting and good movie that makes its point in an interesting way. It's been a few years since I've seen it, though, so i can't really saw more. I can't say the same thing of other Ed Wood films, though. Plan 9 especially was a snooze. The worst flim that MST3K did was, I think, "Monster A-Go-Go".
-
waraw: now i want to watch Batpussy. Thanks a lot. I'd like to nominate "You Got Served" which I suffered through last night solely to see the dancing and Dave Elsewhere. Whoo-boy, what a stinker. Had to fast forward through sixty percent of it and the forty percent I COULD watch kinda sucked too.
-
Oh and incidentally, "Manos" got its worst ever props mostly due to a drubbing by that "Ain't It Cool News" who proclaimed it to be so.
-
Please tell me someone here loves Cool as Ice as much as I do. It's worth seeing for Vanilla Ice's wardrobe alone (I wish I could find a better picture, but this gives you a pretty good idea).
-
Is zombie vs ninja different from Kung-Fu zombie?
-
I don't think that Kung-Fu Zombie is the source of zombie vs. ninja. It has been a while since I've seen it (it is at my parents house), but from the description on IMDB, I think it has a different plot. Also, Cool as Ice is one of teh greatest cinematic masterpieces EVAR!!! It is AMAZING. It just ages so well. The older it gets, the more idiodic Vanilla Ice's speech patterns are.
-
Addendum (sorry to go on about this film!) but I did a bit of research and apparently Gravedigger is (one of) the name(s) of the original film Zombie vs. Ninja appropriated.
-
I think the funniest thing about "Manos, Hands of Fate", is that "Manos" means "Hands". So really, the title of the film is "Hands, Hands of Fate".
-
Actually, I'm going to have to disagree with you ALL and nominate Master of Disguise for Worst Movie of All Time (Including the Future). I have seen a lot of movies, including many of the above listed (it's pathological) and so I know from bad. As they say, it both sucks and blows and not in a good way (i.e. like The Core, which rawked)(ha, geology humour).
-
How is Boxing Helena not on this list? And, shawnj, I thought I was one of the only people on Earth who'd seen Pumaman.
-
For that matter, there's always Matango, Fungus of Terror. Or New Year's Evil, there's another winner. Natas, The Reflection is definitely worth staying far, far away from as well. That last one has become affectionately known as Nachos, the Regurgitation among those few of us who've seen it. I used to go looking for bad movies. I got fascinated with them long before MST3K came along. I think I can blame Movie Macabre for that. So I now have a wide and varied knowledge of crapola cinema. Does it show?
-
reivthom: Gayniggers From Outer Space isn't really that bad a movie. It just sounds like it's going to be bad from the title. Yes, the movie was laughable but it had a plot, characters and wasn't dreadfully long. It's a great laugh, but nowhere near the worst movie ever. I endured eleven minutes before I wondered why I wanted to endure any more. Maybe it's because I haven't seen the remastered (!) version.

"Manos, Hands of Fate": file in the Departmnet of Redundancy Department...
-
The IMDB's top and bottom ratings have quite gone to hell since the site's popularity has boomed among young'uns, who tend to rate movies they like as "10" and movies they don't as "1". As such, the bad new movie is more likely to rack up "1"s than the "3"s or "4"s it deserves, displacing (through sheer volume of votes) far worse movies. And MST3K has always had pretty strong sway over the bottom ratings, not necessarily because they do the absolute worst movies, but because their use of bad movies increases the popularity of said movies, causing them to eclipse other, worse movies.
