Home of the Underdogs is an online museum of PC game underdogs, games that were underrated or undersold at the time of their release. The site pays tribute to those games, and distributes those that have been discontinued by their publishers. Looking for an abandonware PC game? You can probably find it in HOTU's archives.
  • One I will definitely recommend for monkeys is Millenium Auction. That game is amazing in concept and execution. Well worth the download.
  • Stunt Island. Best. Game. Ever.
  • And these guys mantain a site brimming with 'abandonware' for the MacOS, too. Many you'll need a emulator to run on modern Macs, but there are many enjoyable classics there.
  • Yeeeehaw! HOTU is my favorite game place. freeoldies is a good search engine for abandonware. they have handy little flags to let you know what language(s) the games are in. (this would have come in handy the time I finally found a copy of Sam'n'Max, spent years downloading with a 2400baud modem, an the durn thing turned out to be in Spanish.) At the moment, my favorite game is Pirates! Gold. I'm a great fan of Sid Meyer.
  • I didn't see it on the site, but I loved Transportation Tycoon.... the 10-year interval between release and when I was still playing it is probably a record for me.
  • rolypolyman: Coincidentally enough, I was just looking at the tycoon games before wandering by to look around MoFi to see what new FPPs had happened. They don't have the original Transportation Tycoon, 'tis true, but they do have the Deluxe version if you've an urge to play it again and the later version's an acceptable substitute.
  • rolypolyman, I still play that game (Deluxe Version). Bought it in the US for $10 brand-new about three years ago.
  • My best find on HOTU would have to be System Shock 2. After the whole Doom 3 fiasco (downloaded it, played through half, deleted it in disgust), I may just go back to it. Then there's Sanitarium, which is a sick and wonderfully warped adventure game. There's a download, but you can probably find the re-release at your local games store for around $5.
  • Ah, when it comes to the black holes of one's free time, it's always best with the classics. Time to fire up the old Mac!
  • Not very much related but I just recovered my old copy of X-Com. Best.F.Game.Ever
