Tokelau--.tk domain names are free
The island nation of Tokelau believes "that the Internet was supposed to be 'Free'. Meaning no charges, payments or expected return favors." Me too.
-
wow. is this as schweet as it seems? I know the .cx domains were free once too - then they got ya hooked and jacked up the price . . well, no more than normal but it was suddenly more than free to keep it. cool though, thanks sangsaengnim

It is domain forwarding. It works fine. I used it for a couple years when I had a geocities site.

Ah. "Dot TK offers two ways of registration: FREE Registration. By going through our easy registration process you can register your own Dot TK domain name for your own website. You don't need any technical know-how. You don't need any additional servers or services, such as a Domain Name Server. The only thing you need is the URL of your current website and your Dot TK domain name will work directly after the registration process! Registration of FREE domain names are subject to the Registration Terms and Conditions. Note that FREEDOMAIN.TK domain names are never legally licensed to the registrant. Buy your domain name. If you want to obtain the license rights for your domain name, run your own Domain Name Server and also use your Dot TK domain for other services and hostnames, we offer you a registration for just USD 9.95 per year. We accept both VISA and Mastercard credit cards for this type of registration."

I'm getting a dead link from main post. I understand that it is just forwarding, but this is still useful, how can I go register? is www.microsoft.tk taken?
-
www.dot.tk is their main page. try it again if it doesn't work as they do go down from time to time. Many of the obvious domain names, like microsoft.tk are "reserved" which means if you want those, you have to pay. When I first heard about this, I did some research about Tokelau and apparently they say that it will be sucked up by the ocean in about 100 years, so get those .tk names while you can!
-
let's claim tickletickle.tk just for fun hee hee
-
monkeyfilter: sucked up by the ocean in about 100 years
-
two things: 1) when I tried to register ryanmoore.tk (my name) it is "special" and unavailable for free. 2) I caught this: Paid Dot TK domain names are not subject to the Dot TK traffic analyzer or email forwarding programming. Note that you need to register your domain name with your Domain Name Server before registering your Dot TK domain name. Traffic analyser? Email forwarding? So they spam you?

To follow up: the Internet was supposed to be 'Free'. Meaning no charges, payments or expected return favors."??? read the terms and conditions, particularly the part about minimum traffic requirements and such. here
-
particularly the part about minimum traffic requirements and such. This?: 10. MEMBER USE OBLIGATIONS AND RESTRICTIONS ON USE OF FREEDOMAIN.TK 10.1 Minimum Use Requirements. In order to continue providing FREEDOMAIN.TK to you, we may establish minimum use requirements for our members. As of December 10th, 2001, these minimum use requirements are as follows: Each member is required to generate an aggregate of at least thirty (30) page views during 90 days. Access of your domain name by a third party will be credited toward satisfaction of these requirements. By accepting this Agreement, you agree that you will comply with the foregoing minimum use requirements (although you understand and agree that we may discontinue FREEDOMAIN.TK at any time pursuant to section 8.2 regardless of your compliance with these requirements). We reserve the right to contact you from time to time regarding your compliance with the foregoing minimum use requirements. 10.2 Failure to Comply with Minimum Use Requirements. In the event that you fail to comply with the minimum use requirements for FREEDOMAIN.TK, we may elect to terminate this agreement and cease providing you with the service or any part thereof. In the event that you fail to comply with the minimum use requirements for the e-mail account provided to you as part of FREEDOMAIN.TK for two consecutive calendar months, we reserve the right to deactivate the email account without prior notice. You acknowledge and agree, that upon deactivation of your e-mail forwarding service any existing messages cannot be directed towards your mailbox. If your e-mail account has been deactivated, you may request that the account be re-activated at any time provided that you are otherwise in compliance with the terms of this Agreement.

No, the email forwarding is simply that if you have monkeyfilter.tk you can set up webmaster@monkeyfilter.tk and have the email forwarded to your real email address. As far as the 30 hits in 90 days, I used to use www.popularculturegaming.tk before I bought the .com and although I now have the .tk forward to the .com, I barely get 5 hits a month from it and the .tk people haven't threatened to take it from me yet. Honestly people, I used it for over 2 years and the only catch is banner sized pop-up window that usually only had ads for the service itself. They send out an email newsletter irregularly (less than once a month) and that is it.
-
i just snagged pedan.tk ... wonder if anyone's grabbed goatse.tk yet?
-
quonse.tk, yeah?
-
Well, unlike jcccalhoun, I used .tk for several years and eventually *did* get email from the .tk people warning me that they were gonna take it back due to lack of hits. By that point I had lost interest anyway, due to it not being a real hosting service and quite limited in any case. So don't go crazy. BTW, I think it should be goatsexe.tk If you're drunk or stoned that probably sounds right.
-
it *does* sound right! *gazes wide-eyed at hands*
