I Want A Pony: Venerable MonkeyBashi - can we keep the sidebar links longer than 24 hours?

Is this a profile setting or can we otherwise do this ourselves? Just asking because I closed the browser and it must have just gone midnight on your planet - all the sidebar links cleared and . and . . oh well. Sorry if this wasn't an FPP, but it didn't seem like a Curious George either. *offers bananas*

  • (over in monkeytalk, aka monkeybashi's blog, there's something about opening your profile and increasing comments to 100,000? no, wait, opening your personality and inserting 100,000 comets? something like that. carry on.)
  • of course! the blog! I humbly and fully apologize. Although fwiw, the 'recent comments to 100000' is a great idea, but it doesn't keep the topics from disappearing after 24 hours. The other is 'how many new topics', which doesn't do it either. You can delete your account however. hmmmm. . .
  • On my system, it clears it out whenever I close my browser, period. If I hit, say, five links on the sidebar, then accidentally close my window, when I reopen they're all gone, including those I didn't read. I have to leave it closed long enough for new posts & comments to go up before it'll show anything when I come back.

  • A work around would be archives. Another one is to keep a bookmark folder of posts you're following. That takes a non-trivial amount of work though.
  • ...that takes a non-trivial amount of work, though... When we were smaller I used to be able to do that, but no more. I keep thinking I'll find a better way of doing things -- so far, what works best seems to be shrinking monkeyfilter and letting it ride on the taskbar while I do other work, and hopefully, the taskbar doesn't get wiped when I return. But I get muddled, especially when I have to keep track of several things at once in this unsatisfactory way. /technosplat or nitwit
  • Me, I just try to hit everything that's been updated, then close the browser immediately, so only new stuff comes up the next time. Meanwhile, tracicle's sitting at her computer, banging her head on the table, as she's mentioned a thousand times that she knows she needs to fix it.
  • I take monkeyfilter in pill form. Much easier. The only side effects are increased hair growth, public masturbation, and a taste for insects. Nothing major. And this tail comes in handy, occasionally.

  • But, tracicle, it'd make them easier to set aside for future "contemplation." Except that we should just post them on Monkeybashi's blog (on the side bar.) I've asked about my pony there (spellchecker) and her answer was that it's too complicated for this stage of our development. So that's cool. She reports on what she's working on periodically and I'm sure she'll develop any reasonable requests in the order which seems best. I don't think we need another Curious, George kind of category on this site.
