Disco. Baseball. Explosions. What more could anyone want? How about Loreli? Swiped from hitandrun
  • A couple years ago, Veeck appeared with the leader of KC and the Sunshine Band before a Florida Marlins game, kind of a summit of long lost enemies.
  • oh oh!!! my sweetie was there! he climbed out onto the field but insists he wasn't one of the "evil people" that set fire to stuff. one guy actually cut a huge piece of the sod, sliced a whole in it and put it over his head like a poncho. good times, good times.
  • I didn't go (was in 8th grade, and my pop wouldn't let me) but my older brother was there with a couple of his pothead friends. He said it was awesome :) Lorelei, now she figured prominently in the sort of mental imagery one might expect an eighth grader to be having :D
  • good lord, 25 years.
  • Good event, bad consequences. I mean, have you ever listened to Steve Dahl? More like Steve Dull. He was so bad that here in Detroit he was ran out of town. They wrote so much hate mail that he pulled the plug halfway through one of his broadcasts. Most people didn't notice since most of his show fails to move the needle anyhow.
  • BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!! you can reserve your copy of the 25th Anniversary DVD now!!! Video clips on the site, too. Look for your swettie, Side! (Something about Disco!! Makes me use a lot of Exclamation points!!!!)
  • ""It's amazing how the gods forgive," Mike Veeck said. Veeck, then only 28, resigned after Disco Demolition Night and couldn't find a job in the major leagues for 20 years. No organization would go near him, and he battled alcohol for a number of years. But he earned a reputation as a showman while working in the minors, including a fabulously successful stint with the St. Paul Saints. There were some great marketing successes along the way, such as "Field of Screams." That's when he wheeled out huge screens and showed horror movies to the fans after ballgames. Of course, there were some clunkers, too, such as Vasectomy Night. That one was canceled after a public outcry."
  • Damn! I wish I hadn't moved away from St. Paul! Veeck is one of the owners of the St. Paul Saints, one of the coolest minor league ball clubs EVAR! Saints games are always a blast. And Bill Murray's a co-owner. I spotted him at games a time or two. They did this Disco Demolition Night at a Saints game, recently.
