Postpone the election?
The Bush administration is reported to be investigating the possibility of postponing the presidential election in the event of a terror attack.
Would low poll numbers count as a threat?

"The election is a necessity," Lincoln said. "We cannot have a free government without elections; and if the rebellion could force us to forgo, or postpone, a national election, it might fairly claim to have already conquered us."
-
Come on, matey, you only had to look down the page a bit to see we were already yackin' about this 'un. I know it's pretty bloody important and totally outrageous, but let's keep our heads, shall we? I don't like to be the netcop & all, but.. you know. I'll post something interesting later I've been saving to make up for it.

"Would low poll numbers count as a threat?" LOL! Indeed. Heheh The fuckers.

What election?
-
Bushybashi.

This makes little or no sense whatsoever. The polling places are spread over the entire 50 states. I suppose a rogue operative could blow one or two polling stations up, perhaps snipe people off as they arrive or leave, but how would that possibly stop the entire polling process. This sort of shit happens hourly at banks, ATM and convenience stores so why the hell do we need to postpone an entire election? More fear mongering from this hyper-reactionary administration.

I agree that the concept of an "attack on the election" barely makes sense- however something along the lines of a 9/11 attack would certainly inspire a lot of people to stay home and/or cause polling places to close for lack of electricity, etc. in the city that was attacked. It's actually surprising that there is no contingency plan in place for any sort of disaster- what if an earthquake hit LA or San Fransico on election day, or a hurricane hit South Florida? Any such event would inevitably hurt the Democrats, since major urban centers are the source of a huge chunk of their votes, which Republicans tend to be scattered throughout the countryside...

And the lazy ass, apathetic American could give a fuck. The average American doesn't vote anyway, so I see the attitude as one of "hey, what's the big deal? I wasn't gonna vote, so who cares?" Sometimes living in America just pisses me off sooo bad. Lazy, stupid sheeple. FUCK!
-
If I threaten to attack the postponement, will that itself be postponed, which means the election will happen on time?
-
yes but how do you really feel about it, damnitkage?
-
I did it again. I woke up today, turn on the news mosaic, and who's there? Bush declaring everybody's safer and 'the War on Terror won't end in a tie' (yes, I'm sure it looks better with a bow). Then he blesses everyone and leaves. God and bombs at Oak Ridge Lab. I'm got to stop doing that. Getting out from bed, I mean. Ah, the election... yes, good luck on you all USian voters. Seems it's gonna be put up or shut up time. Sheez.

It occured to me today that the single determining component of the Presidential election will be the ability of Democrats to get the vote out. That's it. Money, issues, everything else doesn't matter. If the Democrats don't vote, they don't win - if they do vote, they do win. It's really that simple. And thus ends all MoFi political threads, the most regrettable chapter of Interweb history.
