Responsible Shopper. An excellent site for people who prefer to consume with a conscience. View detailed reports on hundreds of companies, with info relating to labor, environmental, human rights, and safety practices. Find out why some of us won't give our cash to Nike, Shell, or Taco Bell.

And for positive alternatives, check out GreenPages Online.

  • Thanks scartol! Interesting to find I own stock in a company with a red flag on environmental issues. Hmmm. I always seem to be voting against the boards advice on my proxy ballots.
  • scartol, thanks for this, it will surly save a lot of research time for many. Gotta love the Co-op.
  • Co-op America, the organization behind these sites and others including Sweatshops.org, Boycotts.org, FairTradeAction.org and other sites are a wonderful organization! I worked on their web team for two years and it was one of the best workplaces ever. Everybody working there are extremely dedicated to sustainability and they really walk their talk. People bike to work from the outlying suburbs. Everything that can possibly be recycled is recycled. When we had a cockroach problem, we brought in an exterminator who used non-toxic products. Every two weeks the entire staff would get together to prepare the majority of our bulk mailing. The majority of decision making is made by consensus. Half of their board of directors are required to be staff members. And they work on so many different things, from solar energy to organic foods, to fair trade products to Socially Responsible Investing. I could go on and on about what a great organization Co-op America is and what an incredible bunch of people work there. If you can support them, please do.
