An interview with Mahabir Pun, the man behind Nepal's WiFi project for villages and farmers.

And here's an interview with Lee Thorn, head of the Jhai Foundation in Laos. [Via Boing Boing.]

  • I hadn't even heard about this, but you've got to love that WiFi project. Especially if it can work 'backwards' to other more essential projects like water and agricultural needs for isolated villages. (Can't wait for 'village blogging' to catch on...) Thanks for another great post, homunculus.
  • Just for the record, Mahabir attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where I was privileged to meet him. A very humble guy with a "can do" spirit. He has led a significant number of students from Nepal to also attend UNK, which has perhaps a surprisingly large number of international students, for being in the very center of the U.S. I believe that Mahabir is still in the market for donations of still useful computers for use in his Nepal project. Last I heard, he was shipping them back without the case and putting them back together there in wooden boxes, to save shipping charges. If you would like to help and those stories don't include contact information, let me know and I'll put you in contact with Mr. Pun. UNK home page.
