Things That Don't Exist : Non-aggressive authority. September 33rd. Mushrooms with vertebrae. A handy primer on the imaginary, by sock-puppets. [QT movie]

Caution, caution live frogs: they have some skeptical things to say about armadillos too. So what else doesn't exist? I thought I posted this yesterday, but it didn't appear. Don't know why. Was it a DP, zapped before I even noticed? Did squirrels steal it when I wasn't looking, hoarding it for winter? Perhaps its like a Mobius Strip, in that this very post, likewise, does not exist?

  • Brilliant.
  • I thought I saw this post yesterday, ilyadeux. I think monkeyfilter is haunted by a mischievious ghost.
  • ok, also: * based on this comic * lyrics and MP3 link dng: thank you for validating my paranoia. I feel better now.
  • Caution, caution... live frogs! ...When we touch! When we kiss!... Sorry.
  • no, i've definitely been to september 33rd before. it's a real place.
  • I didn't see a thread like this yesterday. I'm not seeing this thread either. Maybe it's me that doesn't exist.
  • April 43, 2000 Today is a day of great triumph. There is a king of Spain. He has been found at last. That king is me. I only discovered this today. Frankly, it all came in a flash. I cannot understand how I could think or imagine for one moment I was only a titular councillor. I can't explain how such a rediculous idea ever entered my head. Anyway, I'm rather pleased no one's thought of having me put away yet. The path ahead is clear: Everything is as bright as daylight.
  • Serious question: Anyone really certain non-aggressive authority doesn't exist?
  • I find the Dalai Lama unpleasantly aggressive.
  • Also missing: my dignity, Something that can be divided into nothing, the last part of this sentence,
  • lkc: Also missing: my dignity Ah, but if it's missing, then it must exist!
  • *sob* I miss sifl and olly so badly! Fantastic post, ilyadeux.
  • {Sock banana}
  • OK, that rocked. I thought it was from sifl and olly but perhaps I am mistaken.
  • I'm giving my sock banana to my sock monkey - he has been looking rather gray these weeks. serious answer: I doubt it. Even the Dalai Lama (enlightened, benevolent, brilliant and kind himself) exerts aggressive authority in the eyes of his subjects who may wish to reject the provenance of his authority. The same in any social situation (here I have a broad definition of aggression though, and the ways in which it can manifest itself). /end serious discussion. pie, anyone?
  • in the eyes of his subjects who may wish to reject the provenance of his authority. Ah, yes. Like the Chinese government.
  • beer-flavored lakes in Minnesota Actually these do exist. MN used to be called The Land of 511,842 Lakes.
  • hm. Yes - likewise people reject the Chinese aggressive authority in Tibet, for obvious and very legitimate reasons.
  • MN used to have 611,843 lakes, but they were made of beer and thusly have been drained. Now there are 786,947 other yellow lakes--virtually undrinkable, however, unless you're denying reality.
  • I, for one, am glad for the existance of singing sock puppets.
  • ilyadeux: The same in any social situation Ah, but what about non-social forms of authority? I would say Zen, for example, provides authority - in the sense of 'here's what to do and how to do it' (if you can figure it out) - without aggression. Or maybe I'm giving too broad a scope to 'authority'. Those sock puppets really should be more specific in their discourse :P
  • This song's been in my head all day now and isn't showing any signs of leaving. Thanks. No, really.
  • Thank you.
  • Kiki and Bubu changed my life.
  • Anybody remember Sheri Lewis and Lambchop?
  • Anybody remember Shari Lewis and Lambchop? I'm afraid so. And I wasn't an embryo at the time, either.
  • I've still got that damn song stuck in my head.
