Walk the East Coast Greenway "Walkers, cyclists, and other trail advocates have joined forces around an audacious project, a 2,600 mile traffic-free path linking East Coast cities from Maine to Florida. Launched only 10 years ago, this vision for an urban alternative to the highly popular Appalachian Trail is quickly becoming a reality."
So, does a journey of 2,600 miles begin with 2.6 steps?
  • I'm totally into this idea. The west side of Manhattan is pretty much already pedestrian/bike/skate traversable from the George Washington Bridge down to midtown. They're working (slooooowly) on the east side version now. (Some of which will be viewable from my apartment. =))

  • I'd rather they use this new roadway to put SUVs on so that they can travel in one huge lane wide enough for them and so that I can see more than thirty feet in front of me again when I am on 95.
  • I seriously love this idea. I am riding down the Baja this summer and would love to do the same in my own neck of the woods.
  • I want to make a Deliverance joke about the Georgia portion but can't think of anything -- help!
  • You got a roly poly mouth, boy...
  • Here's an overview of the European long distance footpaths. I'm doing the coastpath E9 (about one week every year). Having a single track for both cyclist and walkers seems to me a, well, bad idea.
