It's just a jump to the left...
  • When I was in high school I was a big Rocky Horror fan and while in Germany one summer I got to see RHPS in a Munich theater where it has been playing continuously since its opening. They redecorated the theater to match the movie and have the print with the original ending, which (in that dark age before DVD) I had never seen. Ain't nobody cooler than Eddie.
  • Good on you, the_bone! It needed a post of its own.
  • He stared at me and I felt a change; time meant nothing, never would again.
  • Damn, if there's one movie I cannot freakin' stand, it's "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". What did it were two incidents: 1) At TAMU, I went to the outdoor theatre to watch the show. I stayed in the back to stay out of the way of the "festivities" (which were pretty lame to begin with) and still, some little s**t zapped me from behind with a watergun. 2) At a dance, one of my friends commandeered the DJ booth and proceeded to play "The Time Warp" over and over again, as the number of participants dwindled each time. By about the fourth repetition, the majority of us were ready to dismember her. Haven't been able to watch the movie or listen to any of the music since then. Meatloaf's OK, though.
  • Ain't nobody cooler than Eddie. When Eddie said he gave his teddy head, You knew he was a fucked-up kid; But when he threatened your hole with a ten-foot pole, What a fag! Makes you gag! Unt I did.
  • I went to the Saturday night show every week for three years, from 1977-1979. It was addictive, and I had a excellent time. A little twisted but still fond memories.
  • "But it's the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane!"
  • I just want to tell you both good luck, we're all counting on you.
  • drivingmenuts, that's a shame. Honestly, that's why I don't listen to the radio. A good song comes on, I'm digging it, and all my friends say, "This song is SO overplayed!" Much as I love Time Warp, that would definitely suck.
  • I know a huge fan that relishes on taking unsuspecting friends or acquaintances to the show. She took a clear-cut Marine, then a couple of very strict catholics. They didn't knew what they were in for. They all had a great time.
  • I posted this question (and comment) on the tailing off of the RIP RWR thread: ---------- How many times did you folks see Rocky Horror? Did you go in costume? How many of you were on cast? My daughter claims to have coined most of the audience responses that spread from Palo Alto/Santa Cruz (CA) to the rest of the country some years ago. She was on cast and must have seen it at least 300 times. I think I've watched it twice, but have to tell you that sight of Tim Curry in fishnet stockings opened up some neurons that I hadn't recognized before. Or, maybe I didn't have to tell you. Anyway: ALL TOGETHER NOW, "Let's do the Time Warp again." ------------ So let's bring it here. And the links were good on the post - they give one a view into one of the counter cultures of the time. Having grown up in the Happy Days era, I'm not sorry to see something that brings out the raucus, witty, rebellious spirit in youngens.
  • I went once in costume as Columbia, sequinned hot pants and top hat and all. Awesome night. I went also in my first year of university to see the 1995 NZ cast (mostly from a really bad medical soap that's been running here for years) and the show was fantastic except for the guy that played Frank. And my aunt played Magenta in my hometown's version, which I also saw. And I own the original cast LP. But it was the original that left me with a permanent crush on Tim Curry. That and him as Rooster in Annie.
  • RHPS soundtrack is the first record that I can remember actually putting on. My folks (at this time grad students at U of Illinois in Urbana)had the LP and my older brothers and I *loved* it, and knew every word to every song. Judging form the house these memories take place in this had to be 1978 or 1979. I was 6 years old. I remember interpreting "Toucha toucha toucha touch me, I want to be dirty" pretty literally (at least as literally as my 6 year old mind could make it) and imagined some sort of game of tag in the mud. Heheh...
  • tracicle: did you tap dance?
  • Oh oh! I was in a floor show once, as Frank, at the old Ruth Gordon Flick in Westborough, MA. I was there with friends, in costume (more or less), and there was no other Frank. I did OK for having no preperation other than a bootleg VHS copy of the film, but I never had the opportunity to do it again. That was in high school, I think...
  • I'm definitely not a tapdancer, but I can do nasal.
  • Oh, dear! I'm out of my depth. Nasal what?
  • Heavy... black... and pendulous. /played a Wedding Guest a couple of times in 1982; would need to borrow some spats
  • MonkeyFilter: not a tapdancer, but I can do nasal
  • I got the rice, TP, matches, newspaper, and hotdogs. Whoz gonna sit with me? (Iamnotavirgin)
  • Meh. Call me an asshole, but I've always preferred the original Roxy cast album. The movie's songs are too slow. And I don't know how to Madison, so don't ask.
  • Every time I see Susan Sarandon in a movie I feel embarassed because of the way I...well I...while I saw....68 times...every week for more than a year...at midnight, Saturday night... the University Theatre in Berkeley California, third row center....I'd just got out of Catholic school and this was...well I....I was.... ....I was feelin done in.... Couldn't win.... I'd only ever kissed be for or or (you mean she...uh huh...) I thought there's no use getting Into heavy petting It only leads to trouble And...seat wetting....
  • Nasal as in Columbia's voice. Well I was walkin' down the street just-a havin' a think...
  • (originally posted in the Reagan thread, reposted here per path's request) I was on cast in Chula Vista, CA during the summer of 1990 (just before the start of my senioryear of HS). I had been going since 9th grade, and have therefore seen it a shitload of times. Unfortunately that theater closed toward the end of my senior year. I usually played Riff-Raff but did the role of Brad a few times as well. I also memorably did "Sweet Transvestite"- in full drag!- for a musical theatre class in high school (I went to a performing arts magnet where things like that were tolerated).
  • i went to see rocky every single saturday night for at least a year in high school. i still fit into my custom made columbia outfit too, so once in a while i dust it off and wear it for hallowe'en.
  • But then I grew up. Marg Helgenberger on 'CSI' became my new um....cultural icon.
  • I watched part of Rocky Horror once in college. One person in the dorm room knew some of the audience responses. I've seen no more than an hour of it altogether, although I did enjoy the music. Many years later, I danced to The Time Warp with my mother at my best friend's wedding reception.
