Welcome to EUROBAD '74
an exhibition of Europe's
worst interiors of 1974.
-
Just crank up Stereolab while looking at these. Reminds me of their CD cover art.
-
I never knew Europeans kept livestock in their kitchens.

And soon they'll all be fashionable again ...
-
So much brown, so little time.

babywannasofa: I don't have a caption, but jeez, there are so many things wrong with that picture I barely know where to begin. The scariest thing is that the wallpaper is MORE disturbing than whatever is going on with the kid. (And is he carrying a purse or some sort of toddler briefcase?)

Actually we REALLY need a corresponding website dedicated to American 1970's interiors. It was especially bad in new homes constructed in the south and western states, with all the dingy trim, cheesy Western deco, dark interiors, and green fabrics. One of the Europe pages had such an interior, I guess borrowed from the U.S.
-
What did people think of these interiors back then? To my 2004 view they seem awful - but I don't think our modern interiors will age in the same way. I think modern design has reached a perpetual, elegant style which may not be seen as up-to-date, but may remain aesthetically pleasing for years to come.

And is he carrying a purse or some sort of toddler briefcase? It's a little backpack, although you can't see the straps in the shot.

Caption contest: this picture. "Yes, it IS where babies come from, but not RIGHT NOW."
-
"Hey, Billy, no dessert until AFTER DINNER."
