Striking photos of Kamchatka.
Kutkh, the great raven-god of the Koryak, dropped a feather as he flew over the earth, thus was created Kamchatka. At first the land was only populated by men, then Kutkh created a woman. She was very beautiful and all the men fell in love with her and desired her. As the men died they became mountains whose hearts still burnt with a fiery love - thus were created the volcanoes of Kamchatka [webcam] [legend source]. Koryak legends.

What about the Kamchatka crabs? Can we all pause for a moment to appreciate how ridiculously huge these crabs are? And how ridiculously beautiful Kamchatka is?

I really should get back in the habit of searching before I post, really.

Nostrildamus, I think PF wants to be left to himself in here. Great links by the way PF

*glowers at intruders, resumes stroking self*

PF! That's enough erupting around here! Nice links. But it's going to take all day to properly go through this, and I was going to get something done. Or Not.
-
Gawgeous. Many thanks.
-
Nice stuff. I've always wondered about what there is to do in remote Russian places like that.
-
Photos of the Putorana Plateau. A couple more. The plateau from space. National Geographic on Putorana. Greenpeace Russia.

For pete's sake, PF, PACE YOURSELF!! The boy's going to give himself some sort of attack.

Try as I may, I couldn't find any pix of that little dotted bridge that goes to Alaska /Risk
-
Did I mention I do requests?
-
A picturesque place, with the attraction of many uninhabited vistas. The volcanic areas seem marvelously primal -- Raven knows his stuff.
-
Just don't feed the bears (Warning: very depressing story.)
-
Well, crap.
-
Now you've brought PF down. *swats homunculus*
-
*drops pants, awaits spanking*
-
*shoves hat aside, takes up paddle, grinning maniacally*
-
I love PF.
-
FPP plus next 5 posts. PF is heavyweight champion.

A better link to the same song.

As someone who only knew Kamchatka as "that place on the Risk board with the funny name from which I could defend Alaska," I found these links to be incredible. That board game will never be the same again.

Vitus Bering.

Sigh...

I was so inspired by the Kamchatka post that I just did a whole blog post on "The Bush Doctrine as Risk Game*." This is why being a teacher rules: summer vacation! *i feel weird about self-linking; i guess if you really want to see it you can find my blog's URL in my userpage
