Amusing place names in the UK. As a follow-up of sorts to this post, find amusing place names in the UK within a 40-mile radius of your home. Close to me include Bottom Flash, Menlove Gardens, Dick Slack and Hole Bottom. PeurileFilter

  • Mincing Lane is literally right around the corner from me. Also the Hop Exchange, which I like to think of as a branch office of the Ministry of Silly Walks.
  • Hi Blaise! I live close to Mincing Lane too! And that is not a come on, even though my girlfriend says it sounds like it. Other nearby locations include Tyttenhanger, Bummers Hill and Titsey Park.
  • And my girlfriend grew up near Rimswell, Cum Hag Wood, Penistone and Beaver Dyke. Ho hum.
  • Wish I knew some UK postal codes to try it out. Near me in Arkansas is Toad Suck.

  • In the DC area we have Manassas, which makes my gay friend chuckle.
  • It appears that everyone in North London gets Mincing Lane, then Cock Pond (then Tyttenhanger, Pratt's Bottom and Minges) - I am, however, jealous of those who live really close to Mincing Lane. I'm, like, four miles away, and I can tell you on good authority that's a long way to mince. The ones near Edinburgh are great too.

  • When I drive home from gigs, the route usually takes me down a road called Lady's Mile. This has recently turned into a euphemism for sex (ie. "What'd you get up to last night?" "I totally drove down Lady's Mile. Fast and hard." "Awesome!").
  • (Oh, and on the way back we sometimes drop in at the Old Cock for a drink).
  • Often, going to gigs, our meet-up venue is the Famous Cock.
