Pottery and pet hair -- a great combination. Haven't you ever looked at an aging animal friend, wishing you could incorporate some part of him in an objet d'art for your mantle? Now you can vacuum up that hair from the couch and get sentimental with it!

The business' paper brochure has better pictures of pets interacting with pots made of their own hair. Cats seem to find it especially confusing.

  • that's kind of weird, but still i wish i would have known about it before my beloved kitty Arf died. i have his ashes but this would have been nice also...
  • I smell hoax.
  • When I first saw this post, I thought, "Well, that's creepy." Then I saw the photos, and I thought, "Well, that's some good-looking pottery. But it's still creepy." I spent about a decade working for jewelers, though, and you wouldn't believe how many people bring in a deceased loved one's old gold fillings (with a bit of tooth still attached) and have them melted down and made into jewelry. Upon reflection, that's much creepier than pettery.
  • I suppose it's better than mittens.
  • yeah zemat i thought so too but this item ran in the austin (texas) american-statesman in march: Central Texans love their pets. Here's a way to immortalize Garfield or Spot -- Hairloom pottery by Pettery, www.symranch.com/pettery/index.html. Potters take hair (pet or human) provided by the customer (approximately 100 strands, loosely filling 1 measuring cup) and apply it to a hot pot as it is removed from the kiln. The hair singes and creates smoky markings on the pot. Examples of Pettery's pots are on display at local groomers and boarders such as Dogboy's Dog Ranch, 2615 Crystal Bend Drive, as well as at a watering hole for humans, the Draft House, 4112 Medical Parkway.
  • Thanks Sidedish! I thought it maybe was a hoax because I have seen the same kind of textures in other kind of ceramic works and don't imply skinning dead pets (not that I find anything wrong with it). Besides it also doesn't look very much like something that was made out with some fur in it. Maybe if the pots grow out fur like chia pets...
  • So, uh, why couldn't I clean out what few hairs are left in my SO's hairbrush and make him an urn? And then later, well .... You get the picture.
  • Wads and tufts from present And departed friends, Aye, these lie everywhere -- Mute thank-yous or amends. Long strands of cat and collie fur Hang in the humid air, What need have I to add to this Clutter within my premises?
