Curious, George: Oldies Curious George I am working as the sound designer for Idaho Repertory Theatre this summer and I need to find old songs and I am having huge problems.

Specificaly I need songs from 1936 including: "Anything Goes" by Cole Porter "Sunny Side of the Street" "Sunny Side Up" "Happy Days Are Here Again" "Dancing in the Dark" "Goody Goody" "Jeepers Creepers" "It Had To Be You" Any resources would be greatly appreciated.

  • Several of those are available at AllOfMP3.com. That is, if you're okay with obtaining them in a 'moderately' dubious manner.
  • Certainly the University of Idaho's Music Department Archives could hook you up with most of these?
  • What sort of "huge problems" are you having, by the way? Maybe us Theatre Monkeys could pull together...
  • Is this for "You Can't Take It With You"?
  • What are theese "Music Department Archives" you speak of? Yes Dr. Zira it is.
  • Wow. I had no idea there were this many Theatre Monkies roaming around. Nice work, Dr. Zira.
  • Try contacting the Schuldt Music Library in the Lionel Hampton School Of Music, room # 102, right on campus. The phone # is 885-7240. If that doesn't work or they're closed for summer) try schmoozing Tacie Barduhn, the Queen Bee and Admin. Asst. of the Hampton school. Her phone: 885-6231.
  • I suspect that if it's mp3-ness you are looking for, these recordings are prolific enough that you could probably find them with some Google-Fu or use some IRC action. I found a Benny Goodman version of "Goody Goody" on iTunes. Are you looking for specific performances or recordings?
  • You might also try altavista audio search (if P2P is verboten, as it is at my work).
  • I remeber them all. I could sign them to you if I could sing.
  • Not quite sure from what you've said if you're also interested in pre-1936 music as well. Can highly recommend this, the MIDI website of Perfessotr Bill Edwards, where old sheet music and lyrics are available for a lot of oldies. Edwards is a fine player of ragtime piano, well worth visiting anyhow if you're interested in period styles and songs.
  • The Music Library should be open Uncle. Was last week at any rate. Might not be after today though. Dunno if it's open in the next session or not.
  • I too have been a theatre worker.
  • I once saw a theatre. It was pretty dark but I'm quite certain it was a theatre.
  • jeez, diz, i'm impressed. you know ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING! *flings many poptarts your way*
  • (shucks, ma'am!) What a lovely thing to hear after a long week! I'm just nosy and tricky.
  • www.pastperfect.com Vintage music from the 20s, 30s, 40s on CD. Unfortunately they no longer offer their terrific recording of Gallagher and Shean.
  • ) Bannanas all around thanks guys
  • and by Bannanas I of course meant bananas
  • Monkeyfilter: Just nosy and tricky.
