China silences Tiananmen critics.
"A leading Chinese doctor who criticised the Communist Party's 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown has disappeared on the eve of its 15th anniversary. Jiang Yanyong is one of several potential critics thought to have been taken from Beijing or put under house arrest ahead of the 4 June anniversary." But never mind that, "it's the economy, comrade."

ESWN blog has a round up of reports about Shanwei including translations from Chinese reports and some photos of the protest site.
-
A bit of clever commentary from a Chinese forum: This poster copies and pastes an anodyne story from the local propaganda department about Shanwei local government on a campaign for public eduction in "patriotism, obedience to the law, public trust and civility" and then follows up with sarcastic comments how well Shanwei's "construction of Socialist Spiritual Civilization" is going and what an attractive environment for investors the government has created.
-
Oops, forum post already deleted. Even oblique refernces to Sahnwei obviously too risky.

For American corporations in China, staying in business often means collaborating in -- and sometimes assisting -- governmental repression of citizens.

China heckler at White House charged

President Hu, your days are numbered. Don't see how telling a politician his/her days are numbered can be construed as harassing, intimidating or threatening. Everyone's days are numbered; this appears to be no more than a factual utterance. President Bush, make him stop persecuting Falun Gong. Nor does this appear to be harassing, intimidating, or threatening in its nature. The harassment seems to be flowing in the other direction, in fact, since she was arrested and charged.

Saw that ad on a blog. One of the unintended consequences of blanking out history is that the younger generation don't know what they're supposed to censor.
