Hitler kin doesn't want rights to Mein Kampf, even though they may be worth millions. It's not like he's asking for them; but a scholar says he could successfully sue the government of Bavaria if he wanted to. What would you do with the money?
  • Maybe take over the rights, give the royalties to an anti-hate organization? Not a bad idea. Or buy a really neat pony.
  • Build a Hitler theme park in Germany!
  • BAVARIAN CREMES FOR EVERYONE!!!
  • Buy a german shepherd?
  • I can certainly appreciate his reluctance here, but where does the money go? It the publishers are keeping it, that's just wrong. Better the money go to the Holocaust Museum, Jewish charities, the ACLU, and Human Rights Watch.
  • It=If
  • i feel unusual: i can't imagine any prominent Jewish or Holocaust remembrance authorities wanting money that has been propagated through such evil means towards any aspects of their organizations. Could you just imagine?: (Hypothetical): "The current exhibition 'Memorials to German Holocaust Survivors' at the Museum of Jewish Heritage from January - April 2004 is made possible by a generous grant from the Mein Kampf Foundation." The irony would be delicious, but...Yeah, right!
  • I dunno, I'm not Jewish, so my opinion on this may be worth poo, but personally I think that knowing that millions of little skinheads were funding my anti-hate org would make me feel very warm inside. Read on, guys! New hardcover translation next month! I guess I'm saying that there's something beautiful about taking something hateful and using it creatively to help those who've been harmed by those hateful ideas.
  • Any Jews here wish to comment on delicious irony? Pro or con?
  • I'd be all for the bavarian cream donuts. Delicious, but maybe not so ironic.
  • New hardcover translation next month! Wow. Spreading hate AND making profit. You little closet conservative you.
  • The might accept them from the Mein Kampf Expiation Foundation. The article seems to imply, but never says that the rights are limited to Germany. If that's true, the strictures on use of Nazi symbols would make them worth nothing. If they're international, a statement on each cover that "ACHTUNG! ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE OF THIS BOOK WILL BE DONATED TO JEWISH AND ANTI-HATE CHARITIES OF OUR CHOICE." might dissuade Aryan Brotherhood and others from buying their own paper copies. Mr. Maser apparently doesn't enjoy messing with peoples' heads. Of course, that would make the rights worth next to nothing, anyway. (On preview, what middleclasstool said.)
  • middleclasstool, I'm Jewish. You're right, the irony is appealing, but on the other hand, skinheads won't be buying it to wipe their arses with. It's wank material for haters. This would be like fighting gambling addiction with the profits from my casino. Anyway, you say "may be worth millions". Really? You can't sell it in Germany. I imagine English translations will be out of copyright soon if they aren't already. Far better to let those who want to read it for free, without any commercial incentive to distribute it past those who care to seek it out.
  • I'm not jewish, but I believe that it would be parallel to the OK City bombing victims refusing the proceeds from Timothy McVeigh's book.
  • Hope I haven't offended anyone, by the way, particularly our Jewish friends here in the lavendar. I'm just a big fan of subversion, particularly when it comes to the truly evil mofos of the world. I understand the reservations here, and those who disagree with my previous post are probably right, but just the image of taking money from these creeps and giving it right to the people they want to hurt makes me smile inside. Not in a vicious sense, either, more just a lighthearted satisfaction. Swords into ploughshares, that kind of thing.
  • And I ♥ you all.
  • knowing that millions of little skinheads were funding my anti-hate org would make me feel very warm inside. I don't think skinheads buy it. (Skinheads don't read very well.) I've known four people who own a copy of Mein Kampf and all them were Jewish.
  • Skinheads might not read it, but having a copy to flash to their buddies might be thing they'd want to do. Or not.
  • I own a copy. Inherited from my father who got it from his father after he died during the war. No, he wasn't a nazi (far from that) but he was a intelectual and couldn't burn books. I've tried to read it but after a few pages I stopped. Now it's sitting in my bookcase remembering me of what people can do. And no I'm not Jewish.
  • Sort of off-topic: is there anyone left in the world with the last name Hitler?
  • Hmm, how about "Mein Kampf: The Pop-Up Edition"?
  • Ideally, were such to be at my disposal, it would go to the families of those who died in the 'work camps' of the Third Reich, be divided equally among surviving kin of the murdered Jews, gypsies, and homosexuals. And while we're dwelling in Fantasyland, I wonder what the US government will give to the families of the 37 Iraqis who died in American custody.
  • Don't forget the 1.5+ million Polish Catholics who died in the camps as well.
  • I think any amusement over the irony of
