Sisters. Excerpts from Lynne Cheney's tale of women in the Wild West.

Don't run to the bookstore; the re-release, scheduled for earlier this month, was shot down. At least we're still able to feast upon Bill O'Reilly's Those Who Trespass. I hope this isn't a double; I've known about the novel for a while, but hadn't seen the excerpts until now.

  • What an amazing talent the Second Lady has for writing soft porn. I am truly astounded. But this can't possibly be real, surely?
  • It's definitely true. Considering the source, I would've doubted, too, if I hadn't already heard of the book from reliable sources. I googled around for a while, though, and these quotes seem to be legitimate.
  • You know what is really funny? Her complete mix up that the West was worse for women in the nineteenth century. There are good reasons that the western provinces were the backbone of the suffrage movement in Canada, and women voted there first. I can't imagine but that the western US must have been similar. When you have fewer women, their status goes up - add to that a world in which labour is scarce, and you'll find women doing all sorts of things they wouldn't be allowed to in the more civilised East.
  • Well, I mean, funny after the whole Conservative politician's wife writes softcore lesbian porn thing - that's a given.
  • jb, your comment reminds me of a humorous, if unfortunate, episode of The Tom Green Show. He started a petition to stop women's suffrage. You should have seen the women lining up to sign it. They were outraged and saying 'Hell yeah, I'll sign it!'. One woman was truly outraged due to the fact that she actually knew what was going on and tried to explain to the women that he was making them look like total idiots. Priceless.
  • Darshon, I thought that was The Man Show. I saw it and thought it was utterly hilarious.
  • You mean women were lining up to sign a petition against women's suffrage? Why? *eyes goggle*

  • Alnedra: consider the similarities between the words "suffrage" and "suffering". :)
  • *keeps vewwy vewwy qwiet in chick thread*
  • Good grief, monkeybashi. You mean if I set up a petition against women's emancipation, I'm gonna get alot of supporters who think they're fighting against anorexia nervosa?
  • Alnedra, I would guess that it's a painfully high percentage of women that have no idea what suffrage is. Men too, for that matter. Education in the U.S. is sorely lacking.
  • *Decides to keep very very quiet with Wolof* ... *Decides to cower in corner with hands over head*
  • *pats Alnedra on head* Just try not to think about the fact they have the world's largest nuclear arsenal, and a conventional millitary capable of crushing all but one or two other nations in a month or less.
  • Why do you think I have my hands over my head? *cower*
  • Yes, my apologies on behalf of my country the rest of the world. Understandable how you might be uneasy, given that the man who is currently in control of the most powerful weapon the world has ever seen doesn't know how to pronounce its name. We'll see if we can't fix that this fall and start trying to repair the damage.
  • oops, that should be "to the rest of the world." Must proofread, must proofread...
  • *tries to enter New Zeeland into targeting computer, fails*
  • I'm sure the rest of the Anglo world is equally as dumb as the States. Canadian women would be lined up around the corner to sign petitions against suffrage. Actually - I've heard that "suffragette" has a specific meaning - and that there is another word also for women campaigning for the vote, but I don't remember what it is. Anyone have a better than swiss-cheese brain?
  • Nice post baby. This administration writes itself! (drum fill) And yeah education isn't very important here. Stupid people = Republican votes y'see. /runs
  • Pete_best_MCMXCVII, you forgot your asbestos shorts!
