Jon Stewart's commencement speech at William & Mary
  • isn't he brilliant? funny, funny guy. my upstairs housemate went to college at W&M with him. says stewart spent his entire four years there wearing soccer jerseys and shorts. i can certainly see that!
  • If anyone has audio of this I'd appreciate it. I love me some Jon Stewart, but I bet this was funnier live.
  • "I was in New York on 9-11 when the towers came down. I lived 14 blocks from the twin towers. And when they came down, I thought that the world had ended. And I remember walking around in a daze for weeks. And Mayor Guiliani had said to the city, "You’ve got to get back to normal. We’ve got to show that things can change and get back to what they were." And one day I was coming out of my building, and on my stoop, was a man who was crouched over, and he appeared to be in deep thought. And as I got closer to him I realized, he was playing with himself. And that’s when I thought, "You know what, we’re gonna be OK." That is great.
  • We declared war on terror. We declared war on terror
  • If you see people in the real world making bricks out of straw and water, those people are not colonial re-enactors—they are poor. Help them. ) Flashboy - Jon Stewart is a comedian, and the host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, a spoof news program that is often far more informative than the real news, and REALLY REALLY REALLY fuckin funny. He used to be on MTV. And he's a W&M Alum.
  • Oops. I should have expliained who he was and what he was doing. My bad.
  • I wanted to bring this up to you earlier about the real world, and this is I guess as good a time as any. I don
  • God bless, goddamn; as Thurber said.
  • This was hilarious, I saw it on Metafilter. Another one I liked linked in the comments there was Conan O'Brien's speech to Harvard. Comedic genius at it's best.
  • Jon Stewart is about as funny as a dose of the clap.
  • Nostrildamus, is that a dose of the clap to oneself, or to someone else? Because if it's the latter, well, that can sometimes be funny.
  • Nostrildamus - as funny as a dose of the clap, or as fun as getting a dose of the clap? Either way, if that's true, I want a dose of the clap.
  • MonkeyFilter: I want a dose of the clap Also, Jon Stewart is seriously one of my personal heros. I think you have to watch the Daily show for, say, 7 shows to really know why. He's incredibly smart, compassionate, and open-minded. And all of that's on top of being really, really funny. The world is a better place because he's in it.
  • Nostrildamus I agree, though probably not for the reason you think.
  • I think he's funny, but his condescending manner irritates me.
  • I'd call it more smartassed than condescending, and since I am also a smartass, I find him very funny.
  • Monkeyfilter: smart, compassionate, and open-minded. And all of that's on top of being really, really funny. The world is a better place because it's in it.
  • What Kimberly said. There have been days I have felt completely discouraged by the actions of our government, watched the Daily Show, and then felt like things would be okay after all, eventually.
  • Am I the only one that found it utterly *hysterical* that schadenfreude mentioned that getting the clap was funny, but probably not for the reason you think? /ironyfilter *crickets* Ok, it's just me then. Carry on.....
  • Doc Z, believe you meant to say: Monkeyfilter: What Kimberly said. Obviously your degree in funnyology was honorary.
  • Let me join in the love fest and say that I too heart Jon Stewart and the rest of The Daily Show cast. For flashboy and our other non-North American types, don't you get The Daily Show over there? Too bad if you don't. It is, IMHO, probably the funniest thing on TV right now.
  • Monkeyfilter: Obviously your degree was honorary.
  • No, not to my knowledge (well, not on terrestrial, anyway... I'm sure digital and satellite viewers can get Comedy Central) - I suppose satire doesn't necessarily travel as well as other types of comedy. On this basis, though, he must be pretty damn good I must say. Heck, it had me laughing so much that I've only just realised he's talking nonsense... terror bloody well is a noun...
  • Monkeyfilter: Terror bloody well is a noun.
  • I loooooooove Jon Stewart.
  • We get it in Australia. I find it not much.
  • Monkeyfilter: People, Places, Things, or Ideas.
