Leopolis. Photos of Lvov. Posted at glosses.net a while ago, but not everybody reads glosses, I've realized.
  • Also, Master and Margarita, a site all about Bulgakov's novel, with detailed maps of Moscow and Jerusalem to help follow the action.
  • Great stuff! Aren't you glad you read glosses? Don't you wish everyone did?
  • Wipe your [reading] glosses with what you know.
  • Wipe your [reading] glosses with what you know. Ahem!
  • Anglicey: Eggs squawfish lean yoe nun feed marecurious.
  • I loved this lion http://www.leopolis.lviv.net/eng/index.htm But I didn't find a version of the site in English, though I'd have liked to know more about it. Lead me? And, you know what, it seems really rude to me that every serious link gets trashed with anagrams and other "funny stuff." I saw a comment recently asking whether Monkeyfilter ahd jumped the shark, and I'm beginning to believe it has. Wolof, I yearn to know you more intimately, but you've seemed determined lately to end every thread with a non sequitor. And PF, you and others follow in his footsteps. Look, I've loved the fun that tailed off some of the older, long threads, but everything seems to be game now for indirectly dissing something someone hoped we'd all appreciate. Maybe I don't understand what's going on since I appear to be the One Who Doesn't Really Fit In, so why don't you enlighten me?
  • path - I have to get back to work in a few minutes, but I'll think, and have some more thoughts later when I get home. Thanks for speaking up. Just a couple things, now: that I don't know if this particular thread can be derailed (well, now it can), because there's not much to discuss. It's a link, because I wanted to show people something, but I've got nothing to say about it, or I would have already said it. I'd like to know which threads are being dissed by Wolof's comments, or mine (so we can stop doing it). In this recent thread, he throws out a couple zingers, but they're in the spirit of much of the rest of the comments, and I wouldn't say the discussion was derailed. About the Lvov site, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a version in English. But all the URLs are in English, so if you run your mouse over a link in Ukranian, you can see what the photo is about by reading its URL (or at least I can, on the grey bar at the bottom of my IE window). If you want any of the text captions in Ukranian to individual pictures translated, just holler, and I'll help out as far as I can. I don't know Ukranian, but I know Russian well enough to understand most of them. Or, if you want to know what the deal is behind the collection, I don't think they really say anything beyond what's translated in the link you put in your comment. More when I get home from work.
  • I've bookmarked this one -- thanks, PF.
  • Anglicey: Eggs squawfish lean yoe nun feed marecurious Is this something I'd need an alp or a riverrun to know about? / tired, thick
  • Wolof - possibly - either that or a searchable index. I'd like to hear what other people have to say about what path said before shoving my any foot further down my throat.
  • Reading this this morning, it struck me funny that I yelled at the owner of the post for not taking it seriously enough.
  • Wow, that concordance is great! Turns out it's from Finnegans Wake (for those of you who don't want to go to the trouble): 484.29: ahem! Anglicey: Eggs squawfish lean yoe nun feed marecurious. And path, that struck me as odd also. I don't see anybody dissing the link. I think everybody liked it, but in the general MoFi spirit added a little jokiness.
  • Well, path and hatly, surely this isn't the only link on MoFi, and there is a lot of joking going on, and if it's turning people off to the site, it should get slowed down, n'est-ce pas?
  • Just ignore me. I am an idiot.
  • OH, Jeeze, Wolof, you're as far from an idiot as anyone I can think of. It's just that, in my own (maybe off-center) view, doing comedy in a thread where the post is serious just seems rude , so I go into school marm mode ("Will the boys in the back of the class please quiet down!) And, when someone give me a present, such as an interesting link, it seems only proper to thank him or her. Since I hadn't paid attention to who posted this link, I was blind-sided by pf's erudite response. If I'd realized that he was ok with the fun I'd have kept my keyboard unused. So, sorry to stir up the shite when it wasn't appropriate. There will be no group hugs since I can't afford the the airfare.
  • Unused "s" here. Either tack it onto "give" in the above, or keep it next to your heart.
  • path, here's one anyway: *HUG*
  • I don't know if it matters I posted it, since this is a chimpaporship of the monkitariat where the means of production and the products of labor are held in common. That was my personal pee on our collective comment, after all. I became suddenly in the question (should we Curious George it?) just the other day. My brother, who is a regular MeFi reader, I talked him into becoming a Monkey, but after a day of reading, he said he liked it there better [shudder]. Says, it's all joking here. I dunno. Also, path, a friend (the same who originally directed me to the site before glosses blew it world-wide) has sent me a link to a page in English of photos of Lvov. Also links to a gallery with few words, but all of them in Polish, and an "everything about Lvov" site in Polish, where you can find other galleries, like this one. Also, a Lvov page in English. My friend says if you have any questions, ask her - mail me and I'll send you her email.
  • I became suddenly in the question How unlocalizably yet cutely foreign of me!
  • Ah, PF, I may replace Wolof with you in my affections. My feeling is that it was your post so if you were ok with the silliness it's ok. And thank you for the Lvov links, I'll treasure them. But, in a way, your friend is right. I personally like the sprightliness of the posts that are intended to be funny. but but also would really like to see more stuff that's informative and challenging. Tell your friend that he could help give me that by providing links to things like your Lvov post. On the other hand, I've posted a couple of links about things I love and thought might be interesting here, which fell without even a thud. So, maybe this really is a venue for fun and games, with an occasional current events discussion. If that's what the membeship wants it to be, that's ok. But it does seem to me that ... On, never mind.
  • And, Alnedra, thank you!!
  • path, back in the old days, before The Change, when I was a Metafilter lurker, before my prehensile tail grew, I used to feel sorry for links that I liked that never got any comments, or just a couple thank yous, but then I got to thinking... I mean, I follow these links, and I don't comment (not that I could, but you follow). So just because no one's commenting, that by no means implies that no one's reading what you post, and appreciating it, but they have nothing in particular to say about it. So now that's my attitude - I put a link on the front page, and probably some people find it interesting, and I don't expect anything more, really.
  • Ah, PF, I may replace Wolof with you in my affections. *gasps, recommends PF as good sort*
  • So just because no one's commenting, that by no means implies that no one's reading what you post, and appreciating it, but they have nothing in particular to say about it. I'm trying to tell myself that, but the total of two comments I got on my last MeFi post is still very galling. Maybe I should have led with the sailing ships, or left out the B actress... *sulks, flings poo at self* Oh, as far as the humor level -- it's true MoFi leans more towards humor, but I consider that a great improvement over MeFi's tilt towards bile. YMMV.
  • Funny, I somehow missed that post at mefi. But I'm enjoying the links now, though I don't think I would have commented had you put them here, not because I'm not reading them, but, unlike hoskala, I have nothing to say. I mean, I don't go and put smilies after all the jokes that make me laugh here, and there are plenty of them.
