Old Prom Pictures Damn prom was so awesome via SharpeWorld
  • what a great link! when i went to prom in '78 i wore a mint green polyester hooded dress and my date wore a dark green tux with mint green ruffled shirt. he had hair just like peter frampton -- or, as my mom said, "oh, he's so cute, just like a curly little lamb." heh. (anybody who wants a chuckle can email me and i'll scan it and send it along!)
  • When I've gotten close enough to someone to truly call them a friend I ask to see their prom picture. It's an odd rite of passage that seems to open people up to talk about what they were like in high school. Then I show them mine. This is followed by large guffaws and wheezing. Nothing like seeing a butch-ish dyke in a pink poofy prom dress, complete with a string of pearls, circa 1988. Weeha!
  • I don't know if it's just because the photos are of a quality like that of photos of the youths of middleaged people I know, but everyone in the pre-1980 photos just looks so... old. We looked much more like children at our (2001) senior prom. I had tails, but other than that nothing very odd or exciting.
  • I did not go to the prom. My girlfriend wanted to "see other people" our Senior year, so instead I went to a showing of "American Gigolo" at the Dollar Theatre. Not the end of the world. Pathetic when you're too Pathetic to know you're Pathetic.
  • oh diz! *i* would have gone with you! but only if you would have worn that mint-green ruffled shirt and dark green tux. then we could have gone down to beach at lake michigan and "watched the submarine races." ha!
  • Dizzy: of all the things in high school that I wish I could have skipped, Prom was it. Despite being fairly popular and without major social scarring it was depressing as all hell. I wish I could share the photos with you just to give you an idea of the scene.
  • I rather like the guy in the red jacket with the top hat. He pulls off the look, somehow. I suspect his Oompa Loompas helped him shop.
  • Red Chuck Taylors. Black Tux. One hit of Red Dragon. Nuff said.
  • Hmm. Some of these are funny, but a lot of them are just, well, dated. Like the 50s ones and the guy in plaid, for example; fashion often looks risible in retorspect. I liked the gal in the Southern Belle outfit; the size disparity might be more striking for me if I didn't have friends in the 5'0" height range who have boyfriends taller than me. This one was in the funny-sad category for me. I hope Jim has filled out a bit since this was taken. He defines "gangly teen" in this. I hope he selects a lousy rest home for his mother.
