Monkey user search
Cribbed mercilessly from bookmarklets, it's the Monkey Searchinator!!
A silly little utility that will let you google for a particular monkey's name on the site, or, indeed, any particular key phrase. I use it in lieu of linked user comments, or the google search page.
-
Didn't work for me. (Weeps.)
-
uh, what did it do for you?
-
Cool! Thanks, boo!
-
path, I think it'll depend on the browser. Didn't work for me in Safari but did in FireFox. It's an awesome wee app, boo. Mind if I link it on the sidebar?
-
I'm not getting anything either...and I even resorted to IE (from Firefox)The horror! The horror!
-
well, hell. sorry it's not working out for y'all. I'll see what I can do here. tracicle : go for it!
-
Seems to work ok in IE. How about opera?
-
Whoah! What's different about boo's link? 'Cuz that one works for me (in both Firefox, and IE).
-
I'm using Mozilla Firebird, if that's useful to you, boo. Worked fine.
-
Boo's first version used a Netscape-specific method on the document object (to get any current selection in the window, and use that instead of presenting the "Monkey Name" prompt). The second version skips that and always prompts.
-
Works for me, in lowly IE. But... it flings me to the page, not the exact post.
-
That is really cool - thanks boo!
-
A winner is goetter! *rains bananas down on goetter*
-
Yes! The second link works. Thanks.
-
On further thought, how would I bookmark the 2nd link since it brings up the user prompt, which doesn't appear to be bookmarkable? (Using IE.)
-
If you just right click on the link, you can select 'Add to favorites'. Click on that, click yes, name it, and you're done! You now have a monkey-finding bookmark!
-
Hmmm...that's interesting. After reading goetter's explanation, I tried boo's first link again (while still in this page), and it worked. But if I go back and try if off of the front page it doesn't work. Seems mysterious. (at least to me) Anyone know why?
-
Weird, Ghost: I just tried it and same thing. *shrugs*
-
that is a cool script, but from what i see, it seems to just be googling for "user site:monkeyfilter.com". I sometimes use "site:.edu" when i want to try for something more researchical.
-
Here's a variant that should (famous last words...) work in all (ok, most) browsers.
-
Unfortunately, "add to favorites" doesn't show up on a right click on the link using Earthlink.
-
The variant worked. Thanks again.
-
The variant worked for me too. YAY! Thanks boo and goetter. This is wondiferous.
-
you can also add "filetype:bmp" or whatever to searches. /shrug
